Because the covid virus has surged so strongly, I have put in place stricter protocols.

Meal preparation and clean up are restricted to the following hours:

7 am to 8 am 1 pm to 2 pm 7:30 to 8:30 pm

Meals must be eaten in your room.

Two nearby grocery stores that have a wide selection of prepared meals are Whole Foods and Berkeley Bowl in addition to local cafes.

No access to lIving room, dining room, and half bath during the pandemic.

Always mask whenever you leave your room and wipe down all bathroom and kitchen surfaces you have touched with the materials I have provided.

Wash your hands for the minimum 20 seconds as soon as you enter the house and use hand sanitizer. We need to maintain the 6' social distancing whenever we are in a room together, although being in the same room at the same time needs to be minimized. If you agree to and are comfortable with all this, then by all means, make a reservation.
SELF CHECK IN THROUGH LOCKED FRONT GATE AND LOCK BOX AT FRONT DOOR. (Instructions will be sent 2 days before your arrival.)

The Morning Room sits in the SE corner of the house so it is warm and light filled nearly all day long. Furnished with a desk, super comfortable double bed, chair and dresser, it has everything you'll need for a comfortable stay. It is 8’ 3” x 12’ 2” (101 sq. ft.)

Feel right at home during your stay in the San Francisco Bay Area. Share a lovingly refurbished 1906 home with me on the Oakland/Berkeley border. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is a short five minute walk away for easy access to San Francisco and both Oakland and SFO airports. If you arrive with a car, there is plenty of street parking, but a guest parking permit is required. They are $5 per day or $27 for two consecutive weeks Monday through Friday. UC Berkeley campus is about 2 miles away. There are many amenities within walking distance; post office, the fabulous Berkeley Bowl grocery store, Whole Foods, Sweet Adeline’s Bake Shop, La Pena Cultural Center, Ashby Stage Theater, cafes, the downtown Berkeley arts district, plenty of public transportation, etc.

If you like to cook, this is the place. My kitchen is BIG, with two refrigerators, a six foot stainless steel prep table, double oven, six burner stove and two sinks. And a love seat right in the kitchen that makes conversation easy and fun while you cook! There is a separate dining room and a very inviting living room. All the bedrooms are upstairs, with shared bath and a half downstairs. You are welcome to use my washer and drier.

Outside I have a spacious front porch with a fountain and porch swing to relax on and a big deck and spa in the back yard. Lots of plants, birds, squirrels, and the occasional raccoon to keep you entertained.

I am easy going and have spent many years sharing my home with travelers and housemates so I'm sure you will be very comfortable here.

BART is a 5 minute walk. AC Transit bus lines within one block. Bay Bridge is a 10 minute drive.

Please have employment, landlord, and personal references available if you would like to complete an application. Move in requires 1st month's rent plus a security deposit of $1400 for stays of more than one month.
Stays of up to one month require a $500 security deposit. The security deposit is refundable within 21 days upon completion of lease agreement and move out, with any damage and cleaning fees deducted. Cleaning fee is $65.

•If you are the last one out of the house you will need to set the alarm and make sure windows and doors are closed and locked.

•An occasional visitor is okay with me but please be sure to arrange it with me beforehand. No overnight visitors. So if, while here, you meet someone with whom you would like to get better acquainted, you will need to do that elsewhere.

•Please keep your room and common areas neat and clean. If you cook, please wash, dry, and put away your dishes, wipe down the counters, work surfaces, and the stove, and sweep up any food droppings on the floor. If you like to fry foods, you will need to wipe down all the surfaces the oil splattered onto, as I do not have an exhaust fan. Be finished cooking, eating, and cleaning in the kitchen by 9 pm.
•I provide bed linens and towels but you are responsible for laundering the bed linens. I do the heavy cleaning in the common areas but it is expected that you will clean up well after yourself. I will show you where the cleaning supplies and the vacuum are stored, so you can keep your room clean. I require no less that once monthly dusting and vacuuming in your room.
•Please Conserve
Electricity: Turn lights off when you leave a room; turn off the exhaust fan in the bathroom.
Water: California rarely has water to spare, so please conserve our precious resource. Don't leave water running when brushing your teeth or washing the dishes and please be mindful when taking showers.
•Recycle; Oakland recycles nearly all of our waste. I will show you the recycling ropes.
• Hot Tub use: Please shower before use. I will show you how to check the water chemistry.
• This is a quiet, non- smoking, drug free property.
I look forward to meeting you.

About Me
I am a retired (as of February 2017) business woman who owned a wholesale bakery for 35 years. Now, I rent out extra bedrooms in my house in addition to a lovely backyard, detached cottage. Favorite pastimes are walking, hiking, and biking. I love attending plays, musical and dance concerts, and going to movies. If an interesting author is giving a book reading, I'll go, time permitting. I was an art major in college and studied Mexican Folkloric dance there and Flamenco after. I dabbled in Afro-Cuban drumming but didn't get very far...the bakery constantly pulled me away. Now that I am retired, maybe I'll try music again. I am very friendly, while at the same time, giving my guests whatever degree of privacy they need. My ideal guests are people who are quiet, considerate, thoughtful, and who keep my rentals clean.

I stayed in the Morning Room since October 1, 2018 till January 31, 2019 during my sabbatical. The room was small but cozy and I could write inside or read outside in the garden. I didn't work in the office and the size of the room was not a problem for me. The bed was amazing, soft and large. I could relax very well and didn't mind the size of the room. The light is crucial to me and this room has a lot of light all day long.

Zoe is a very nice host and a very friendly person. Everyone can feel that she likes people. Cooking was easy because of very well equipped kitchen. It was possible to use spices which was so helpful.

House is located near the Ashby BART station. I felt safe walking to the station to catch early flight from the Oakland airport or returning from the concert in SF. I could keep my bike in the garden. It was safe to bike everywhere. Shopping was easy. Great shops within walking distance: Berkeley Bowl or Whole Foods.

I felt nostalgic looking at the photos of the morning room where I spent 4 months.

Thank you Zoe.

I stayed in Zoe's Blue Room for four months (mid-August to mid-December) and was extremely satisfied with the whole experience. I put below some points that I didn't think got enough attention in the other reviews.

Kitchen/food: Zoe's house is walking distance to three(!) grocery stores: Berkeley Bowl (10mins), Whole Foods (10mins), and Safeway (20mins). Zoe's kitchen is very amply-equipped, so meal prep is easy. Zoe has a lot of spices that guests are free to use, but other groceries you have to buy. You get about half of a large refrigerator and a large shelf to store your personal food, which was plenty for me.

Blue room: The Blue room itself is a fantastic room to come back to after a day of work or sight-seeing. There is plenty of space to store clothes (there's an 8-drawer dresser in the closet!), the desk is large enough to work at, and the bed is warm and comfortable. The room is large enough to give you space to think if you need it. One of my favorite aspects of my stay was how little cleaning I needed to do: just dust and vacuum this one room!

(I should clarify that where one reviewer says "first floor", I believe they are using the convention that distinguishes the "ground" and "first" floors, while others would say the room is on the "second floor". It's up one flight of stairs from the front entrance to the house.)

Surroundings: The UC Berkeley campus is roughly a 30-45-minute walk away depending on which part of campus you're going to. Biking is also an option- Zoe's house is fenced in, so the odds of having your bike stolen from home are very low. There is also BART- the Ashby BART station is also only ~5 minutes walk, providing simple access to San Francisco, the Oakland Airport, and downtown Berkeley. The station nearest UC Berkeley is one stop away. I walked to/from campus every day- the Bay Area's weather is consistently great, so this worked well. I often walked home at night (8pm-10pm), and, sticking to the side streets, I never felt concerned for my safety.

I stayed at this accommodation (blue room) for the past three months. The room is on the first floor and the living room, kitchen and bathroom are shared with the other tenant and/or Zoe. Everything about this place was to my convenience. Zoe is a very warm and welcoming landlord. She also has a clear guide for her tenants to follow which make it very easy to share. The room was fully furnished with more than I expected, I really liked the clothes walk in closet and there was absolutely no shortage of necessary supplies. I would definitely consider staying here should I visit the area again or even recommend a friend to stay there. Excellent Ella Liinganiso 8/20/2018 2:04:00 AM
I stayed for five months in 2018 in Zoe's cottage and loved my quiet, cozy space. Zoe has thoughtfully crafted this cottage for comfort, convenience, privacy and utility. The kitchen is well planned and stocked with all the essentials for simple to fairly sophisticated meal preparation. I did a lot of cooking here. There are two gas burners and a fabulous, innovative convection oven that can also be used as a microwave. The fridge is a good size and there's plenty of cabinet space. Super comfy bed with nice quality linens. So smart to have the 14 drawers of ample storage space built in underneath! That, plus the three clothes/coat racks and shoe rack were all I needed for my (large amount) of clothes and personal item storage. The full bath (tub and shower) is sweet, and the cottage has its own deck that overlooks Zoe's landscaped backyard. I loved sitting out there in the sun and taking in the constant display of things in bloom - Calla Lillies, Citrus Trees, Nasturtiums, Clematis .... Zoe is friendly, warm and immediately responsive to any questions or issues. Excellent Colette Boudreau Stall 6/11/2018 8:02:00 AM
