Looking to Rent

Wanted in Germany

Listing #140714

Seeking flat for couple. Will be based at WPIWG.

Hallo! We are Chris and Daniela, academics in Oxford, England, preparing to move to Berlin late-August 2020. We are a couple, both aged 36 years, with a small cat. Ideally, we are looking for a furnished (or partly-furnished) 2-bedroom flat in a quiet area with a nice kitchen and a reasonable commute to Dahlem. We will consider properties outside of Berlin.

About Chris:  I am an American, born and raised in Upstate New York. I completed my BA at Dartmouth College in Chinese & Philosophy, an MA and PhD at Harvard University in Chinese, and am now finishing a junior research fellowship at the University of Oxford. Beginning in September, I will be joining the Max-Planck-Institut für Wissenschaftsgeschichte as a Postdoctoral Fellow. My research concerns newly excavated manuscripts from ancient China, written on scrolls of bamboo slips, the spread of literacy in pre-modern societies, and its impact on empire formation. I have travelled extensive throughout Asia, and speak Chinese (and a bit of Japanese). Hobbies I enjoy include collecting Chinese Harry Potter forgeries, going for a hike in the countryside, and occasionally watching a Buffalo Bills (American) football game.

About Daniela: I am half Mexican (my mother), half Caucasian-American (my father), and hold passports for both countries. I was born in Los Angeles, raised in Arizona, and moved to England 12 years ago for graduate studies. I completed an MA and MSc in Archaeological Conservation at UCL, and my DPhil (PhD) in Archaeological Chemistry from the University of Oxford. My research is mainly materials-focused and laboratory-based, but has also involved considerable stays abroad. Professionally, I would like to work in a museum or similar setting. My quarantine projects included writing a recipe book, learning German and planning our move to Berlin.

About Milagros (“Mili”): Milagros means ‘miracles’ in Spanish. She is a spayed, 4-year-old calico cat born in London and raised in Oxfordshire. Mili spends considerable time indoors, but will enjoy the garden on warm, sunny days. She is very affectionate, curious and playful. Her favorite toy is a bouncy ball and her favorite food is roast chicken. She is up to date with all her vaccinations and well-behaved.
