This is a bright and spacious apartment on the third floor of a walk-up. The building is a classic Chicago brownstone, on a tree-lined street, 5-minutes away from Lake Michigan. The apartment is fully furnished. It has one bedroom, a living room with an office-corner set-up, a dining room, kitchen and bathroom equipped with a tub. The bedroom has access to the balcony, which has two-chairs, a small table, & a parasol for summer lounging. Building: This is a very quiet building, with kind neighbors. Our street is fairly quiet, but the occasional siren will pass and you might hear some rumblings during rush hour, when there is a heavy traffic on 55th st. We have video surveillance in the lobby & entry, and a remote-buzzer system. There is a bike room in the basement, as well as a laundry room with a couple of washer and dryer machines. Neighborhood & Access: The apartment is a 20-minute walk to campus, or 6 minutes on a bike. It is a hop-skip and a jump away from Promontory Point, a peninsula which juts into Lake Michigan, where you will find lovely views and a promenade, alongside a bike lane which goes all the way up into the Loop (downtown). It is about 10-12 minutes from the shops on 53rd st., including Whole Foods, Target, and smaller coffee shops and restaurants. Transportation includes a Metra stop (regional train) around the corner, as well as express-bus station across the street (#6 bus), and #171 & #55 local buses. Conditions: The monthly cost includes all utilities, which covers heat, gas, water, and high-speed internet. This is a smoke-free apartment, and you should keep the noise level down on weeknights. I have a good relationship with my neighbors and I'd like to keep it this way. I am looking for someone (or a couple) to take it for the entire July–September period, but would be willing to work with you if that window is not feasible. I have a good amount of closet space and I will be storing my clothes and some of my books away so there is space for your belongings. Update: For 2024, I have a subtenant from July 7 to August 4th. The apartment is now available from August 5th until Sept 15th, with some flexibility on the move-out date. Comments: Sunny & spacious, w/ high ceilings, arches, exposed beams, east-facing windows & balcony access, in a classic brownstone. A short walk to Lake Michigan, on a tree-lined street; near Metra and express-bus stations, and an 18-minute walk to UChicago.
Comments: I am requesting a deposit of $500
Comments: If you do have a car, there is street parking, but is often full after 7pm. Please note: I live w/ a cat -- she won't be there, but if you are allergic this may not be a good option. You can smoke on the balcony, but no smoking inside the apartment.
I will leave you my mail key, if you could bring it into my apartment for safe keeping, I would appreciate it.
I have several plants in the apartment and they will need some watering.
Comments: Happy to give more details about the plant care, but none of my plants are extremely fussy.

Comments: The building has video surveillance in the entryway. Washer and dryer machines are in the basement laundry room. The balcony is shared with the neighboring unit, a kind pair of sisters who are respectful, clean and seldom use it.

Comments: I will be in Europe during your stay, but I have friends in the neighborhood if we miss each other for a key drop off.
