As close to perfection as Durham offers! Furnished, stately two-story home that is perfect for either a small family or a professional wanting more privacy and space than an apartment. A separate, sunny office on the main floor (for one or two) fully equipped with wi-fi and printer makes working at home easy and enjoyable, while three bedrooms on the top floor provide flexibility for four (or even five, if two children share a room) people, or rooms for visitors or other hobbies or activities. Plus, the partially finished basement provides spacious and easy storage, as well as the washer and dryer. The home retains the sense of history and charm from the 1948 original structure, including a wood burning fireplace, a cozy dining room, and a lovely bench/cabinet area at the side entrance. The home has also been enhanced with additional, more modern space that welcomes in the sun and sky, especially in the large, open kitchen and the large-windowed sitting room. Fully fenced backyard makes it perfect for a dog, and there is space for herb/vegetable gardening, in addition to the roses, azaleas, gardenias, crepe myrtles and fig tree already in place. It is less than 3 miles to either East or West Campus of Duke University, easily bike-able, or just a few minutes by car. We occasionally walk it, just for the fun and exercise, as the weather in Durham makes walking enjoyable most days of the year. It is also an enjoyable walk -- 20 minutes right up the Tobacco Road Greenway -- into Downtown Durham, a thriving hub of restaurants, bars, hotels, shops, farmers markets and craft fairs, etc. In addition to Downtown, there are several malls and commercial strips within easy driving distance, so every necessity -- post office, parcel centers, groceries, gas stations, pharmacies, movie theatres, coffee shops -- is easily accessible. North Carolina Central University is even closer to us than Duke, if that happens to be your destination: less than a mile and a half away. UNC-Chapel Hill -- as well as all of the lovely town of Chapel Hill -- is just 10 miles down the road. NC State in Raleigh is a 30 minute drive. The surrounding neighborhood is wonderful for walks, short or long, in several different directions, with winding, hilly streets with low traffic. And we are literally across the street from a park, which includes not only tennis courts, a picnic pavilion and a disc golf course, but a creek and long, tree-lined walking paths. This neighborhood was originally a public golf course, and so long grassy greenways extend throughout the area, in addition to the Tobacco Road Walking Trail, which stretches for miles, and runs right through the neighborhood. Things to consider... Although it is indeed a lush, quiet neighborhood, Forest Hills is in fact in the middle of a growing city, so it is not the same level of quiet you'd get in a rural setting. Cities make noise, and we do get sirens, truck noise from the University Drive (the nearest connector-road), and occasional amplified music from the park across the street. We have loved living here for the past five years ourselves, and can give it our personal seal of approval. We plan to live here again one day and are very interested in finding folks who will love living here for a time as much as we have! We can also share additional pictures or any additional required information, so just ask! We look forward to hearing from you!
