Perfect for someone coming to Los Angeles for the academic year (preferable for the semester though timing is negotiable) who would appreciate the unique setting of our garden apartment and community. Village Green is a National Historic Landmark, built in the early 1940s as a “garden city”, in the heart of Los Angeles, to fit the progressive social vision of architects, landscape designers, and planners of the mid-20th century. This urban oasis has modernist buildings immersed within a rare 70-acre park-like setting where you can enjoy living in a beautiful, green, and peaceful environment with walks, picnics, and hikes into a nearby California state park, right outside your front door. The apartment is a two-bedroom ground floor unit designed for one person or a couple. The second, larger bedroom is used as an office and library, though this could be converted into another bedroom, if needed. The apartment has hardwood floors throughout and the furnishings and decor respect the historic mid-century modern design. The fully functional kitchen was remodeled to bring back the original 1940s feel with stainless-steel counter-tops, cast-iron sink, charming vintage refrigerator, and electric stove with oven, paired with contemporary conveniences (microwave, dishwasher, and a washer & dryer within the apartment). The apartment also has a private patio filled with succulents. There is on site security. Village Green is very well located in Los Angeles. The neighborhood is diverse with restaurants and cafes nearby and supermarkets within 5 minutes' walking distance. The unit has a single garage for a car and the Expo Metro line, which is only a 10' walk to nearest station, is a terrific amenity with easy access to USC and downtown LA or west to Culver City, UCLA, and the beach in Santa Monica—a convenience which often allows you to beat LA traffic! My partner and I are both academics teaching abroad for the 2022-2023 academic year. We teach in historic preservation/conservation and urban studies which is what originally drew us to Village Green. Ideally, we are looking for tenants who are likewise in academia, on sabbatical or teaching abroad, and who will share our love for this unique home in a historic setting. We are a community and many neighbors are also academics or in creative fields. Cost includes high speed internet and all utilities (water, electricity, gas, trash collection). No pets.
