It is a 30 minute walk to the UC Campus and the shops and restaurants in the “Gourmet Ghetto” (Chez Panisse) and downtown Berkeley. It is also a 20 minute downhill walk via a pedestrian path to the stores and restaurants on popular Solano Avenue. The house is approximately ½ mile from Berkeley’s Tilden Regional Park, a sprawling 2,079-acre wonderland of forested hills and trails that ring the San Francisco Bay’s eastern cusp. An AC transit bus stop is 500 feet from the property which provides transportation services to the entire area including San Francisco and North Berkeley BART ( the train system that gets you to San Francisco in 18-30 minutes). The home is in a residential neighborhood, and on-street or driveway parking is not a problem. Cragmont Elementary School (and playground) is only 1000 feet from the house. The house: This charming house was built in 1912 and was the home of Ky Ebright, the UC California crew coach who guided the Cal crew team to win 3 Olympic Gold medals from 1928-1948 and was featured in the best selling book and film "Boys in the Boat" by Daniel J. Brown. The house is set far back from the street on a large richly landscaped lot which provides a unique level of privacy. The house has large windows on at least two of the four walls in every room that brighten the home. Giant bay windows in the front and side offer gorgeous views of San Francisco Bay and the two Bay bridges. There are 3 upstairs bedrooms, 2 with adjoining full baths. A corner office is also on the second floor. On the first floor there is a formal dining room, a spacious living room with a working fireplace, a den or entertainment room, laundry, a ½ bathroom, and a fully equipped “eat in” kitchen (6 burner Gourmet Wolf Range, microwave, espresso machine, Bosch dishwasher, etc.) There is a patio in the back with a Cuisinart gas barbecue and a large redwood deck in the front. Modern amenities include high speed wifi/internet and Dish Satellite TV service. Other considerations: We require a refundable deposit of $5900. Our house cleaners charge by the hour so the cleaning fee ranges from $250-550, depending on the state of cleanliness when we return. References and credit check is required.
