I'm an adjunct professor of theatre and performance studies at a New Zealand university living in the historic old copper mining town of Burra, Australia's largest inland city in the 1850s. My research and my personal life takes me to Europe, Asia, and the US for extended periods most years. Depending on when you elect to stay, I may be staying in the guest house on the property for short periods of one or two weeks. I have a ute (Australian for utility vehicle, or small truck), and we may be able to work out a way for you to use that (insurance permitting) for transport in the region. My cottage dates from the 1860s and was brought back from near ruin by an artistically gifted Dutch woman and her German partner who lived in it until a few years ago. The property's vast garden was created on the bones of a putt-putt (mini) golf course. The couple's careful and respectful restoration of the cottage added spectacular slate floors throughout, textured walls, exposed beams, and custom built cabinetry that hides virtually all modern features, creating the impression that you have stepped back in time (but with high speed internet). The town of Burra is a National Historical Registered Place and attracts a significant number of tourists who come to check out the historical sites open to the public, the town's famed antique shops, and to kick back with a bottle of Riesling or a red blend from the nearby Clare Valley, one of Australia's great wine growing regions. I'm looking for an individual or a couple who will enjoy living in this beautiful and characterful cottage. The study has a comforable "miner's bed" suitable for an additional guest.

Comments: This 1860's stone cottage, built by Cornish miners, is in the charming town of Burra, a National Historical Registered Place. The cottage features a cozy bedroom, a light-filled study with guest bed, a large front room, and a working kitchen.
Comments: Apart from a bus to and from Adelaide that runs once a week, there is no regular public transport. Everything you need (groceries, butcher, coffee shops, pubs, etc) is walking distance from the cottage.

Comments: The second bedroom functions as a study. The property has a vast garden, with significant old growth trees in the native section. There is a guest house with a separate entrance, which may be occupied for 2-3 nights a week or by the owner.
