Comments: Viterbo is an amazing medieval town located between the Tuscan Maremma and Rome. Near to the vulcanic lakes (Bolsena, Bracciano) and to the seaside, it is surrounded by nature. It is well known also for the thermal baths - there are many equipped spas, as well as natural pools. The city is still limited in its beautiful and intact medieval walls. Viterbo is known as the “City of the Popes” (it has been the Papal Seat in XIIIth century) and it is famous also for the numerous fountains decorating its squares. One of the most interesting parts of Viterbo is the district of San Pellegrino, a perfectly preserved example of a XIII-XIV centuries quarter with its narrow streets, squares, arches (the characteristics outdoor stairs), courtyards, towers and ancient buildings. Walking through the medieval quarter of San Pellegrino is like stepping back in time. Except – there are also many restaurants etc with excellent food.
