Modern suite with two beautiful sunny rooms plus eat-in kitchenette, well-designed and quality built. This is a private space but part of a friendly household in a larger house. This space will be available July 21, 2023, possibly sooner. The suite has one room meant as bedroom, another room meant as living room and/or office, as well as kitchenette. Walk through the living room to half-staircase leading to bedroom; there is no wall between the two and no way to use a room divider. (The suite is thus not suitable for roommates who do not wish to sleep in the same room.) Closet plus generous storage areas. Full bathroom is immediately adjacent to suite and is unshared most of the time. (See below.) Kitchenette has full-size refrigerator, sink, counters, cabinets, small round table, ample electric outlets -- but no stovetop or oven. Instead, two portable induction cooktops and a portable convection oven are provided. A microwave could be used. Some furniture is in suite, available for use. Use of new washer and dryer in basement, shared by residents, is included. Gardens front and back includes fruit trees and vegetable beds, herbs, berries and natives. There is ample outdoor furniture; suite residents are welcome to use the yard. Help with the garden is welcome but not required. The location is an easy walk to Ashby BART and several bus lines, Berkeley Bowl Market, cafes, small shops, Bushrod Park (with recreation center, youth programs and tennis courts), several weekly farmers markets and two community gardens with various activities. Very friendly neighbors, great area. The downstairs of this house is occupied by a couple with a dog. The upstairs has, in addition to the suite, a small living space that is occasionally occupied by short-term guests and, until mid-August, by one young man (son of the couple downstairs). (Doors provide total privacy.) The upstairs bathroom is shared. (The downstairs bathroom can also be used by suite residents when needed.) The guest space can be used by suite residents as needed, if available (which it usually is). There is not a separate entrance for the suite. This living situation is between an apartment and a shared house. We aim to build an informal community with occasional, possibly regular, shared meals. We value conservation of resources, minimizing of carbon and water footprints, recycling and reuse, treading lightly on the earth. Pets will be considered on a case-by-case basis, bearing in mind that we have a dog.
