Our house has hardwood floors, 2 working fireplaces, vintage chandeliers and a beautiful open 3-story wooden staircase. It was built in 1894 with amazing views of the beautiful St. Louis Basilica on its doorstep. The backyard has a newly built deck off of the kitchen under which is a small carport for off-street parking. The low-maintenance backyard was recently re-landscaped with a Japanese garden feel. The house is in a desirable neighborhood, the Central West End. Easily walkable amenities include Whole Foods and two other local grocery stores, several coffee shops, winebars, a lively restaurant scene, drugstores, art galleries, a bike shop, and a public library. St Louis' peerless Forest Park is only a 10-15 minute walk (or short bike ride) away. (Forest Park hosts wonderful civic events as well as the zoo, art museum, history museum, bike and running paths, paddle boating, ice skating, and golf courses.) The house is a short walk to SLU and a bike ride or easy drive to Wash U Danforth Campus. We're practically on top on the Washington University Medical Center. It's also well-linked for transport further afield: a short hop to a major interstate and an easy walk to the MetroLink light rail, which provides clean and efficient service, including to the airport.
