Our cozy 2-bedroom cottage on the lake provides a perfect place to both work and relax. The large wraparound deck is just steps from the water and the living room and den/office have large windows facing the lake so you can feel like you’re outside while staying warm in the fall and winter. There’s a large kitchen and separate dining room with a bar between them, giving the cottage a very “open” feel. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a bunkbed and a single, so it sleeps 5. There is also a pull-out couch in the den. The bathroom has a shower, but no tub. The cottage has full amenities (washer/dryer, dishwasher, TV, cable) and small appliances (coffee grinder, food processor, etc.). Sheets and towels are provided. For working, there’s high speed internet, stand/sit desk with electric controls, ergonomic office chair, printer, and a beautiful view (which I find somehow improves my work quality :-). We’re right on the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, which hooks up with the Cross Vermont Trail, which goes all the way to Burlington. The trail is great for biking, walking and cross-country skiing. In the winter you can often skate, cross country ski, or snowshoe right on the lake (after checking to make sure is completely solid). It’s a short walk to West Danville village with Hastings Country Store, which has been in the same family for 5 generations. There are also tennis and pickleball courts and a playground nearby. While we are in rural Vermont, this is not a wilderness location, so you can hear cars and trucks from Rt 15 and Rt 2 on the other side of the lake, along with the haunting sound of the loons. Being on a major road does have the advantage that the roads are kept clear in the winter. We also have the driveway plowed regularly. There are many wonderful hiking trails nearby, particularly in the Groton State Forest, which is just over 10 miles away. For downhill skiing, Burke Mountain is about 30 miles away and Jay Peak is under 50 miles. Burlington, Vermont, home to University of Vermont, Champlain College and St. Michael’s College, is just over an hour drive. It’s a lovely city on Lake Champlain with lots of shops and restaurants in its downtown, whose main street is shut off to traffic. We are pet friendly and just ask that you pick up after your dog in the yard (as well as in the neighboring yards). We even hosted four Labrador Retrievers coming from Alaska to go to a Field Trial in nearby Cabot (we gave them our big house next door—4 big dogs is a little much for the cottage). And by the way, they won medals!
