This charming, cozy home has been in my family for 50 years and is now available on a limited basis for short term stays in Santa Cruz. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly and has just the basic local traffic. It is on a slight hill and you can walk easily to local stores, parks, restaurants and coffee shops. It is a few blocks from several major bus routes and is just a mile from UCSC in one direction and just a bit more to downtown and the beach in the other direction. The home itself was built in the 1940's and still retains it's original character, It is comfortable, attractive and very livable. It is well maintained with nice furnishings and decor from a mix of styles and cultures, and has appropriate upgrades for comfort and efficiency. The heat in the house comes from a forced air heating system and bonus heat comes from a gas fireplace in the living room. It is great as a way to warm the room on a cold or foggy morning. Both bedrooms are furnished with a queen bed, bureau and a desk. The small bathroom has a bathtub/shower combination. The kitchen retains the original tile countertops and cabinets and some additional cabinets and a small counter have been added for increased functionality. From the kitchen window, the view looks out over the deck onto the nectarine tree and garden. The kitchen door leads directly onto an expansive deck that runs the width of the house and leads into the garden from several directions. There is a covered section with a large skylight in the middle of the deck that provides shelter and flexibility for use under any conditions, from sun to rain. The yard has several other seating areas with benches, moveable tables and chairs. A bonus outdoor hot/cold shower, tucked in a corner of the garden and screened for privacy, is convenient for a post-beach rinse or a relaxing al fresco shower. There is also a raised garden bed that has lettuce, chard, kale and various other veggies depending on the time of year. Several apple trees are in the yard and on the side of the house by the front door is a lemon tree and an orange tree. Help yourself to any produce you would like.
