Third generation owner would love you to relax and switch off in this 100-year-old farmhouse on Mayo-Galway border (aka Joyce Country). This "Joyce Country" farmhouse was part of a working farm for 3 generations and now enjoys a slower pace of life. The house is a solid stone construction built circa 1920 from locally quarried stone. The surrounding countryside is truly spectacular and an outstanding environment for those that appreciate the great outdoors (walking, hiking, cycling, fishing, etc.) as well as more cerebral pursuits such as reading, writing and thinking amidst the peace and quiet. In addition to the wonderful scenery just outside the door there are many sites, villages, towns of historical and geological interest within easy reach. Explore the links posted below for additional photos of the house and more detailed information regarding the surrounding area. The nearest supermarket, post office, bakery and choice of two great pubs/restaurants is 7km east in the village of Clonbur. The nearest pub (no food) is The Larches Bar 3km to the west (open weekends only). Joyce Country is a cultural region in counties Galway and Mayo in Ireland. Part of it falls within the Connacht Gaeltacht. Joyce Country lies on the shores of Lough Mask and Lough Corrib and includes the Partry Mountains. It is a rural area that includes small settlements such as Clonbur, Cong, Cornamona and Tourmakeady. It borders Connemara, to its south and west. The area is called "Joyce Country" after Thomas Joyce emigrated to Ireland from Wales at the beginning of the 14th century and settled in the area. His son married an O’Flaherty and thus the Joyce clan took control of the whole barony of Ross. The Joyce family became completely Gaelicised, ruled over their followers like the Chiefs of an Irish clan, and assimilated into the local Gaelic culture.
