Brand new showcase eco-home in quiet rural community

I hand-built this home over the course of several years, putting attention into both ecological and aesthetic aspects. From the outside, you will see locally sourced hemlock siding, painted with handmade paint (according to a centuries-old Swedish recipe). Inside, you will find at least six species of natural wood (from light poplar railings down to the dark bamboo flooring), tiled kitchen, bathroom, and back entry areas, and a spiral staircase leading up to a large multi-use loft space. The home features an air-source heat pump (which rarely has to run, because the walls are insulated to R-40) that offers both heating and cooling; a heat-recovery ventilation system that brings in fresh air while retaining the energy indoors; heat-pump hot water heater and drain water heat recovery on the shower; a separate DC electrical system that not only efficiently powers all the lights and the refrigerator, but keeps them running in the event of a power outage; and many other creative approaches to energy conservation. In my long term vision, I would love to offer this as a medium-term rental to people who are interested in learning about Ecovillages, Intentional Communities, net-zero energy homes, sustainability, off-grid living (the home is on-grid, but designed to be "grid-flexible" for both energy and water resources), and similar practices.
