We are a family of 5 that moved to Australia 10 years ago and we are going on sabbatical to Germany for 6 months. We are seeking someone (or a couple, or a small family) to rent our historic property home with utilities included from approx late June to December 2024 (exact dates flexible; minimum of 3-4 months). House includes: -prime location: near base of Mount Ainslie, near War Memorial -close to ANU, UNSW Canberra campuses, city and hikes -private backyard -close to parks and nature -close to shopping -close to nightlife -quiet neighbourhood -spacious with high ceilings -timber floors with carpeted bedrooms -excellent morning light; large windows -2 hrs drive from the beautiful NSW South Coast We live in the sought-after, quiet suburb of Reid, Canberra, close to universities, primary/high schools and daycare, Canberra City, Mount Ainslie, tennis courts, and other conveniences. Our Reid property in the 'inner-North' offers the perfect location if you are working in Canberra for several months to half a year, or if you will move to Canberra and need a convenient "home base" while you explore and learn about the city before settling on your own long-term housing. Included: WiFi internet, heating in bedrooms (gas), electric heating or fireplace (with pizza oven; see below) in the main living space, TV, washer and dryer, dishwasher, crockery, bedding/towels, office space. Two showers, one of which has a bathtub, three toilets, garage with workout bench for lifting weights, home office with large desk and ergonomic chair. Bedrooms: main bedroom has a queen-sized bed with ensuite bathroom (shower, toilet, sink) and small walk-in closet. Depending on tennant needs, we can make another bedroom available with a king-single bed, or a bunk bed (single-sized mattresses). All bedrooms have closet space and windows. The child’s room with the king-single bed also has a desk and ergonomic chair. In the courtyard there is ample room for two cars, also suitable for playing basketball. Across the street is Reid Oval, which is appropriate for team sports (there is a cricket cage) or just kicking a ball around, running, etc. The neighbourhood is quiet, but a few minutes drive and you are in the city centre where you can find a large mall (the Canberra Centre), as well as numerous restaurants, smaller shops, cafes, bars, and plenty of underground parking. A bit further out (10 min drive) is the Canberra Airport and Costco among many other shops. Our neighbourhood allows for quick and easy access to the main motorway (Tuggeranong Parkway), so getting to North or South Canberra is relatively quick. The nearest grocery stores include: Aldi, Coles, Woolworths (Canberra City), a family-owned IGA (Ainslie), among others. There are several weekend markets, the nearest to Reid is the Haig Village Markets (Sunday mornings). Uber drivers will usually arrive to our home within 5 minutes. There is a large backyard with young fruit trees (varieties of cider apple, plum, apricot, citrus) that attract local cockatoos and other wildlife. We also have a large deck, clothesline, and gas BBQ. Canberra houses can be very cold in winter. We are one of the only houses we know of that has a European-style brick oven heater (that also doubles as a pizza oven). We are happy to let the tennant have access to this fireplace and provide instructions, but the cost of wood would be extra. In the meantime, we do have other ways to heat the house! Our ideal tenant: someone aged in their 30s/40s or older, academic or professional, single or a couple (though a small family would work too). The listed price assumed more than one occupant. Happy to answer questions and/or show recent images of the inside of the house for serious tenants.

Comments: Big house (2 available rooms) on big lot with garden and sunny deck. Walking distance to downtown (20 mins), or 5 min drive to groceries/shops/cafes. Close to universities (UNSW Canberra, ANU), and the city, but area is quiet. Close to hiking.
Comments: We plan to have someone taking care of some garden work/maintenance while we're away to keep grass down etc.
Comments: We have three kids thus the house is suitable for children, but our youngest is 7 thus we do not have a crib/toddler amenities (perhaps playpen). It would be suitable for 1 adult, or 2 adults, or 1 or 2 adults + 1 or 2 children. Happy to discuss.
