My wife and I are a geologist and social worker/movement specialist with two grown boys who spent their jr. high and high school years in this house. They are in or out of college now, and we will be on sabbatical for the 2024-2025 academic year. We have rented our house out multiple times before through AirB&B and VRBO.com with great success while we’ve been on shorter vacations. We’d love to have you rent with us for a month or a few. (Please inquire about discounted rates for multiple-month stays.) The house is craftsman style–high end and architecturally gorgeous with ample light, especially in the great space, kitchen, and master bedroom with views facing a partly landscaped and partly wild yard adjacent to Arroyo Burro Creek. You will love the natural setting. The property is quiet and surrounded by oaks and eucalyptus; the creek wraps around two sides. Birds visit the feeder and frogs chirp at night. We even see a bobcat or two every once and a while. The patio area includes a grill, a table with shade umbrella that seats 6 comfortably, herbs, and a key lime and tangerine tree. A tree in the front grows persimmons. The lot is at the end of a driveway shared with our neighbors, and there are spaces for two cars in the driveway and one in the garage. While the property is built so that you have almost no awareness of people living adjacent to us, our next door neighbors are wonderful. The house is two stories plus a large finished basement large enough for an extra queen bed & bath, the TV entertainment center, a desk, and a Pilates studio (ask if interested). The main floor features a great space with a dining area and table large enough to comfortably seat eight, an electric keyboard and Congo drum, a Sonos sound system with quadraphonic sound, a half bath, and kitchen. The kitchen has windows on three sides and French doors opening to the patio, a granite countertop island, two sinks, Wolf stove with six burners, two ovens, and a griddle, and appliances and cookware to support a household that does a lot of cooking. It’s a very comfortable space and great for entertaining. The bedrooms are all upstairs. The master bedroom has a king bed and balcony overlooking the patio and backyard–very private, a walk-in closet with washer and dryer, and a bathroom with two sinks, jacuzzi tub, and a five-shower head shower. The other two bedrooms share a full bathroom. Both have queen beds. One is larger and has a desk; the other has a small balcony and a secret “Elmo cave” nook great for kids or storage. The landing has a lamp and desk and, while not large or isolated enough to call a proper office, is a place where work can be done. Both the master bedroom and larger second bedroom are large enough to put mattresses on the floor or a crib, so if you have children who would sleep with you in these rooms, the house can accommodate more than six (plus the queen bed in the finished basement). Other features include central vac and room ceiling speakers that connect to the main floor sound system. August and September can be warm in Santa Barbara, but our property is cool and stays comfortable without air conditioning. We are on a beautiful new bike path that connects to UCSB (30-40 minute bike ride) or takes you to Hendry’s Beach, a local beach with a small surf break and an off-leash area for dogs. We are a five- to eight-minute drive from downtown and all its shops, theaters, and restaurants, and 13 minutes by car from UCSB. MTD bus line 5 goes right past the house. Elings Park is a great place for trail running, hiking, and mountain biking, and is a five-minute walk away. Trailheads to our amazing and rugged front country for hiking and biking are only 10-25 minutes away by car, and there are many other Santa Barbara and Goleta beaches that are only fifteen-minutes or less away by car. We have two or more bikes in the garage for your use and a couple bodyboards. We know you will love it here!
