Welcome Home. This is *not* an Airbnb, permanent rental or an investment property, it’s our home. So it comes fully furnished and fully stocked! We (a family of 3 + 1 dog) have lived in this 1924 home since 2011. We love the location (walking distance to everything) and our neighborhood (an older, family friendly/dog friendly / LGBTQ+ affirming neighborhood with many long time residents). Children and dogs are welcome. We have a LARGE fenced-in back yard, just off the deck of the screened back porch. About the house: Two story, large, open floor plan bungalow with plenty of space. It’s a 100 yr old house so it has its quirks (original plaster walls and some creaky stairs) but it offers plenty of original built-ins, high ceilings, hard wood floors and huge windows. Downstairs: An actual entryway (you don’t step right into the living room) with a custom shoe rack and coat rack. Office: with tv, a massive library (German and English books), small sofa and adjacent .5 bath. Kitchen: HUGE, eat-in space with wooden island and bench. All the appliances you need (stove, fridge, dishwasher, large farmhouse sink) and some you want (Kitchen-Aid mixer, blender, electric tea kettle, microwave, etc). Pantry off kitchen with additional mini fridge. Living room: functional wood stove, large sofa, two armchairs and ottomans, books and more big windows. Mudroom off the kitchen leads to washer/dryer and…a hidden gem: a screened in 3 season porch. The porch features teak dining table, seating for 6, a large swing, sofas, lights and ceiling fan. Upstairs: Master Bedroom: King bed, upholstered chaise (can be taken out) for a cozy seating area, two closets, two dressers and bench ottoman for linens at base of the bed. 2nd Bedroom: Child bedroom with one full bed and one loft bed (can be taken out). One closet, black out shades and dresser. Bathroom with tub/shower combo. 2 additional closets: one at the turn-about mid staircase landing; the other at the very top of the stairs. Neighborhood: Old North Durham is the oldest original neighborhood to the city. Our house is on a sidewalked street full of kids, dogs, families and friendly strangers. Kids play, dogs bark and yet, inside our house you won’t hear much of that...with the exception of a train whistle from downtown and the occasional fireworks from the Durham Bulls games. Yep, like the 1987 movie starring Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon. We’re exactly 1 mile from the city center so there are emergency vehicle sirens as you’d expect in any city. +Walking distance to Duke, Durham Farmers Market, Durham Bulls Athletic Park, Durham Performing Arts Center, several breweries, two distilleries and countless restaurants and cafes. *5 minute walk to Duke Park, a good sized playground with dog park, restrooms, greenway access. Travel by foot, by bike, by uber/taxi, bus, scooter or your own vehicle. Street parking. Rental scooters are also widely available around town. Store your bike or stroller in the private fenced in backyard. Districted for George Watts Elementary school, a Durham Public Schools Montessori school. 2 hrs to North Carolina beaches, 3ish to NC mountains.
