Large Country-style Living Ten Minutes from Downtown Detroit

We—a family including an entrepreneur, a choreographer/dancer, an eleven-year-old boy, a dog, and two cats—are spending the school year in São Miguel, Azores, and looking for a family who will enjoy this spacious and light-filled house and grounds. The house was built in 1917, yet has an open first-floor plan with connecting rooms that encourage pets and children to chase each other in happy circles. There is a hall, library, large chef-friendly kitchen, dining room, dance/yoga studio, and living room, as well as a powder room and a mud room area. The second floor has three bedrooms—we use one as a TV room, two changing rooms/offices, three full baths, and a laundry room. The charming third-floor attic, reached by the back stairs, with sloping eaves and dormers, has two bedrooms and a full bathroom. (there are many more spaces and views than can be shown with the ten photos allowed here) What makes the house unique in this neighborhood of large historic homes is that it sits on a double lot with enormous trees— perfect for swings and a zip line. We have added fruit trees, vegetable and flower beds, a small pond, and wildlife areas which support numerous birds and butterflies. We plan on taking the dog and one cat to Portugal. We think one of the cats, Milkshake, would prefer to stay. She is friendly, but independent—can use a cat door to go outside when she likes. However, if having a resident cat won’t work for you, we can house her elsewhere. 1/2 a block away from Detroit Waldorf (pre-K-8th) and a short bike ride to good public schools. The rent includes regular upkeep of the lawn and weeding, as well as a housecleaner two days a month. It does not include utilities. Please get in touch with any questions.
