We are both PhDs (anthropology and biology) and newly minted grandparents. We are planning to move to Dresden so we can be hands-on grandparents. We want to rent our apartment on a limited-term contract (1-2 years) and, since we own the apartment, we will be happy to help the tenants register at our address (Anmeldung). The apt is in a pretty, quiet, green area, but still very central, close to public transportation (walking distance from Südkreuz station), the very trendy neighborhoods of Kreuzberg and Schöneberg, and walking distance from the old Tempelhofer Airfield (now a huge public park). The apartment is on the 2nd 'Obergeschoss' (3rd floor) of an attractive, solid, well-maintained complex from the 1920s (listed as a historical monument). It has a total area of 70 m2 (700 sq.ft): an entryway, a small room (8 m2) that we use as an office but which could be a bedroom for one small child, a larger bedroom (15 m2), living room (25 m2) with a functioning wood-burning stove (the apartment does, of course, also have a central heating system), a very nice, newly remodeled and fully equipped kitchen (9 m2), a newly renovated bathroom, and a good-sized balcony (~4 m2). Please note that the attached floor plan is not exactly accurate: we have removed the wall between the living room and kitchen so that the two rooms are open (meaning the living room could not be used as a bedroom). We get the morning sun on the balcony and in the kitchen and living room, and the afternoon sun in the main bedroom, bathroom, and office. We have wonderful, friendly, helpful, English-speaking neighbors (with 2 young boys) and a generally very open and friendly atmosphere in the building.

Comments: Walking distance to Südkreuz, for commuting to Halle, Leipzig, Dresden. Very central, yet very quiet. Family friendly.

Comments: The smaller room would be suitable for one small child or for use as an office (its current use). People can smoke on the balcony, but not in the apartment.

Comments: The "fireplace" is a wood-burning stove; recently renovated kitchen and bathroom (no tub, but a nice shower); the large back yard has a communal playground with large sandbox, swings, table tennis, etc. The building (from 1927) is listed (Denkmal).

Comments: Both start and end dates could be up to one month different in both directions; we would prefer a single tenant for the duration, but semester by semester would also be fine.
