Since we have many years experience hosting artists, writers, thinkers, and creatives in various artist-in-residence programs we have directed over the years, we would like to continue these activities by renting out our light-filled and quiet live/work studio for rent to individuals who are intent on contemplation, investigation, and thinking pursuits. The studio is located behind the main house in which we live. The location is in a village situated between the historic towns of Harpers Ferry, Shepherdstown, and Charles Town, WV. The Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, the C&O Canal, HF National Historical park, Antietam Battlefield (and many others) are all within minutes driving--and offer ample opportunity for outdoor recreation, research, artistic pursuits, and the like. Numerous outdoor adventure companies exist in the area which provide kayak and canoe rentals, zip-lining, bikes, and tours. We are located in brewery/winery/distillery central--so if that's your kind of thing--you are in luck! A car is necessary for getting around the area. Aside from a small market in the village, there are no other services within walking distance, and biking can be dangerous. We do not offer a loaner vehicle at this time. Because we are attentive to sustainable options, and are concerned with the potential over-development of this rural area, as well as the outrageous costs for water in the region, we have built an eco-chic bathroom which features a litter composting toilet (which is cleaned by us 1x/week) and a rainwater shower and kitchen sink (heated). The bathroom facilities and kitchenette are located off the patio of the live/work space. The neighborhood in which the space is located is the former "Company Town" of a limestone quarry, which was filled in in 1975 and is now used as a recreational swimming quarry--to which renters have access when accompanied by hosts. There is also an above-ground, water-filled cave system that can be accessed (via hiking) for canoeing or kayaking. Anyone interested in the historical and economic details of company towns will find this neighborhood interesting. The village is also economically diverse--with many families living here for 5 or more generations, mixed with new arrivals from DC and Baltimore and beyond.
1 Week | Dates are flexible for this listing
Comments: From April-November, we run an artist-in-residence program. The specified rental (QHHQ) is available when we are not hosting visiting artists, and dates vary. We are flexible as to start and end dates.

Frederick | Charles Town | Shepherdstown | Baltimore | Harpers Ferry | Washington | Winchester
Comments: Located an hour from both Washington DC and Baltimore, Maryland in a historical rural area, we are perfectly situated for historians, civic planners, artists, academics, etc. Close enough to two major cities, but still in the countryside!
Comments: We offer the rental of the QHHQ at the same rates as our artist-in-residence program. If you are an artist, other amenities are incuded, and can be negotiated prior to your visit. We offer linen service and toilet-cleaning 1x/week at no cost.
Comments: At the moment, we do not have an extra vehicle, but a vehicle is necessary as there is no public transportation in the area. There is a small market in the village, but you would need some sort of motor vehicle to get anywhere.
