Comments: The Technical University of Braunschweig is a medium-sized university with around 16,800 students on 84 degree programmes. It dates back to the Collegium Carolinum, founded in 1745, and thus has the longest tradition of any technical university in Germany. The university is a member of the association of the nine leading technical universities in Germany. Leibniz University Hannover, located 50 kilometres to the west, is the largest university in Lower Saxony with around 27,000 students. It offers 86 degree programmes. It is also a member of the TU9 German Universities of Technology. The Harz National Park begins 50 kilometres south of Braunschweig and offers a wide range of sports and recreational opportunities for leisure time. The capital city of Berlin is located to the east of Braunschweig and can be reached by ICE train from Braunschweig main station in 1.5 hours.
