Charming heritage house on quiet street, close to shopping and cafes

The house is a lovely 1920's character home in a quiet neighborhood with friendly and respectful neighbors. It is suitable for a quiet individual, couple or even a family of three. Last summer while we traveled for three months, we rented the house to two authors from Victoria who used it as a writing retreat and a space to enjoy visits with their kids and grandkids who live in Vancouver. This year we are travelling to Europe for two months and would love to find someone who will enjoy the peaceful setting of our home in the heart of urban Vancouver. Through the summer and fall the covered back deck is a shady spot to relax or dine, and the front porch is a peaceful place to have morning coffee, looking over the front flower gardens, street and mountains beyond. The house has natural wood floors throughout. We are both visual artists and our collection of original art by various artists is displayed throughout the house. We are within walking distance to excellent grocery shopping, cafes, pubs, pharmacies, banks, parks, playgrounds, schools and the large, oceanside New Brighton Park. It is a ten minute drive to downtown and to the forest trails of the North Shore mountains. Simon Fraser University is a fifteen minute drive, and Emily Carr and Capilano Universities are a ten minute drive. Public transit is one block away. The large bright living room with a fireplace has a 38” TV with cable, Netflix and PVR, stereo and turntable. The kitchen is spacious with a cozy breakfast nook for seating. The gas cookstove is a restored 1953 Okeefe & Merritt and works beautifully. We love to cook, so the kitchen is well supplied with dishes, utensils, pots, pans, spices and a few condiments. There is a propane BBQ in the backyard. The main floor bedroom has a queen-sized, good quality Beautyrest mattress with linens, pillows and blankets. There is a second room on the main floor with a large table and a piano that can serve as a private office/study, or a dining room -or if needed - a second bedroom. Let us know what you need and we will do our best to accommodate. A printer is also available. The full bathroom bathtub is supplied with bath and hand towels, face clothes, soap and hairdryer. There is a coat closet in the front entrance hall and both rooms have closets with hangers and shelving. If needed, there is a third (250 sq/ft) bedroom on the top floor of the house with a good quality queen-sized bed with windows looking north to the mountains. If you are interested in using it, we would be open to negotiating an additional fee for the use of this room. If requested, we can provide pictures of this additional space. All utilities are included in the rent as well as internet, cable and Wifi. There is a shared washer/dryer in the basement. We have a quiet, full time tenant in our basement suite which has its own private entrance. The two living spaces are very separate. (We rarely see or hear our tenant.) The fenced backyard is private with large, mature trees and shrubs. There is street parking in front and a private space for one car in the back. Yard and gardens will be looked after by the next-door neighbor. We have engaged a property manager if needed. We will be happy to provide references from former tenants and additional photos upon request.
