Come live in our 130 year old brownstone with original details, 2 large bedrooms, and 2 small bedrooms currently used as offices. The house also includes 1.5 bathrooms, a large living room, dining room, kitchen, library/playroom, dressing room and treehouse. We’ve got a lush yard and the best neighbors. Renting partially furnished. Trained pets allowed. ABOUT US We're a couple with two young kids who work from home. We've lived in NYC for 20+ years. We work in film and humanitarian aid and research. LOCATION It's easy to get into Manhattan, amazing to bike across Brooklyn and it's our own oasis in this vibrant city. While the city is accessible, it's also amazing to spend lazy days at home, listening to the cardinals and robins in the backyard, with the kids playing in the sprinklers and treehouse. It's truly a unique space in a dense city like NYC. It's also built for people working from home with two small, well lit offices that offer privacy and space to think. YOU We'd like to rent to people who have time to invest in keeping a sustainable house and garden beautiful and functional. While we will be reachable and responsive, we would rather rent to someone who is handy, likes gardening and can manage basic stuff. BACKYARD The backyard is a true oasis and kid’s mecca. No astroturf here. There is a large grassy area, raised beds, custom treehouse with built-ins, raspberries, blueberries, a wisteria vine climbing the deck, an apple tree, tomatoes and 4 fragrant rose bushes. We get fireflies in the summer. The deck off the kitchen lets bird song in all day and is a great spot for al fresco eating and spying on the cardinals who nest in the honeysuckle vine. Bouquets from the garden are a spring and summer staple. DOWNSTAIRS Large living room and library/playroom with tons of room for dance parties and fort making. Giant projector screen descends between the living room and library that makes you feel genuinely awkward watching crap reality TV so large. The kitchen in newly renovated with great appliances, hand blown Italian chandeliers, a hidden fridge, and enough storage to fit Costco deliveries. UPSTAIRS It’s a ridiculously large main bedroom with room for a king size bed, Peloton, desk and whatever other crap needs to camp out. If you want our suede Percival Lafer chair in the dressing room to stay, we can talk. The second large bedroom fits a queen bed, 57 stuffies, a couple twins or two toddler beds, and looks back on the garden. With the windows open you can hear our neighbor’s pond flowing. My daughter Billie-Jean assures me that this room is “the best.” We don’t spend that much of our time in bathrooms so we kept them small. The upstairs bathroom has a Toto Washlet bidet and a skylight. Your butt will be the cleanest it’s ever been. We invested where it counts. OFFICES We have two small rooms that are each currently used as offices but can also fit full size beds. One room has a custom full size murphy bed installed that can easily drop down to make it a cozy guest room. When the bed is up, there is a useful cork board installed for making your video call backgrounds less boring. SUSTAINABILITY This is a smart home that tracks all energy and water usage with programmable lights and appliances. All electric, no fossil fuel/gas use. Excellent European appliances including an induction stovetop. High volume composting system in the garden. Heat pumps on the roof. Central air is being installed this summer.
