Looking for a tenant for sabbatical/academic year rental from August 2023 to July 2024 2 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom Victorian (1890) in Alameda, CA. Approx. 1250 sq ft not counting basement areas. Two-bedroom Victorian house with finished basement spaces and perfect yard for kids and entertaining. Our family will be on a sabbatical year for 2023-24 and we are looking for someone to rent our house from August 2023 to July 2024. On a cul-de-sac filled with welcoming neighbors and kids close to Alameda’s downtown Park Street, our charming Victorian is fully furnished and ready for you! Alameda is an oasis of calm while still having a vibrant and walkable downtown--it is truly a perfect location. The house consists of a spacious living room with comfy king-sized sleeper couch and a wood burning stove separated from the dining room by pocket doors. The dining room has an expandable table that can seat up to 8. One and a half bathrooms and the gorgeous kitchen make up the rest of the first floor. The kitchen has a built-in table that can be extended or collapsed for more floor space, two ovens, and a professional gas range. I love to cook, and you can see evidence of this in the well-appointed range of kitchen implements and the shelves full of cookbooks and the high-quality equipment, ceramics, and glassware that are included. The second floor consists of two bedrooms, one with a lofted single bed and play structure. This room would easily fit an additional bed or crib below or a desk for an older child to use for schoolwork. The primary bedroom has a queen-sized bed, two large dressers, and two closets. The room is light-filled and airy. Both bedrooms have window AC units and ceiling fans for hot days. The basement has several rooms with ample storage, including a tool cabinet, sporting and recreation equipment (feel free to use our bikes and cornhole games!) a laundry area with washer and dryer and a chest freezer, a work/craft space, and a finished library/movie room with a large couch, projector, and retractable screen. The ¼ acre backyard has ample space, including a wisteria-covered gazebo with a dining area seating eight and a nearby barbeque, a lush lawn, and a back space with raised beds, a paved area with lounger chairs and a fire pit, a full-sized trampoline, artist studio, and children’s play structure. The back porch is delightful for sitting and enjoying morning coffee while listening to the birds. The yard has two prolific apple trees, a fig tree that produces lots of figs in early fall, and many large mature trees providing shade and privacy in the back. The entire house is filled with art and thoughtful details. We have a crib and baby gates if you have a young child, and we welcome families with dogs. However, the nature of old Victorians means that there’s lots of steep steps in the house, and it wouldn’t be a good fit for someone with mobility issues. This house would be perfect for a family with one or two kids who are on sabbatical or who are relocating to the Bay Area and looking for a place while house hunting. The house is also walkable to an excellent elementary school, with middle and high schools a short bike ride away. It’s about 20 minutes to UC Berkeley or CSUEB (depending as always on traffic), and if you are working in San Francisco, the ferry is very convenient and takes around half an hour to go from the port in Alameda to the Embarcadero.
