Master suite in Berkeley Hills Home

Living in this house was an experience in itself and a privilege. You can enjoy a stunning view of the bay including San Francisco and the Golden Gate. The house is not far from Campus, without the traffic and the noise, surrounded by gorgeous nature. There are many trails in the area, one of them starting near the house. I happened to see foxes, raccoons and humming birds while sitting in my studio. The aprtment is well equipped with everything you need: i could cook for myself like at home. A barbecue is also available. The landlady is extremely discreet, but I will never be grateful enough for her help: everytime I needed something she was there for me. We even spent time together cooking and exploring San Francisco. Great experience!

This apartment is very clean and everything is very accurate in the advertisement. Most importantly, Deborah is a perfect landlady. She had bought us breakfast for the first morning as we arrived in late in the night. She also took us to buy groceries by her car. So 5/5 stars to Deborah as well. The walk up to the apartment is sweaty but totally worth it, the view is something out this world. You can see San Francisco from the apartment and when there's good visibility you can see Golden Gate very clearly. The sunsets are also amazing over Tamalpais mountain (in August).

At 800 feet above sea level, the view from this Panoramic Hill property exceeds all expectations. The entire Bay can be seen through the floor-to-ceiling glass occupying all West and east-facing walls. Alcatraz is visible in the distance as is the Golden Gate Bridge on the horizon. The University of California campus spreads out just down the Hill with the famous clock tower as a focal point. Hiking trails winding through Claremont Canyon rise from the end of the driveway. I have been living here for about six months. When my wife joined me for a visit, we considered a vacation to Hawaii for about 5 minutes, then decided why go anywhere? Living here is like a permanent penthouse suite vacation. Last but not least, Deborah is a delight!

I have stayed here many times in summer and fall. It has always been a wonderful experience. You will never get tired of the view. Deer, wild turkeys, foxes, neighborhood cats sometimes pass very close to the windows and hawks circle the valley overhead. Sunsets are glorious. The suite has all necessary amenities, a lovely desk, excellent wifi, comfy chairs. You will feel like you are staying in a resort hotel when you shower in the elegantly remodeled bathroom open to views of greenery. Deborah, the owner, is kind and generous and will respect your privacy, but also provide help when needed and information about the area. I have now moved to the Berkeley-Oakland hills myself, inspired by many happy and productive months staying here.

We (a couple from Switzerland working at UC Berkeley) stayed at this place from July to December 2019. How much we liked it there is hard to put in words, but we try anyways. The large house has the most stunning view over the bay area you can imagine. It is located up the hill behind campus. We walked to university every day (though we also worked a lot from home because its so beautiful); its a 20-min walk and some parts are quite steep, but easily doable. Several hiking paths that lead you further up the hills start right behind the house. You have your own (huge) suite with private (stunning!) bathroom, a very comfy bed, and two workplaces/desks to yourself. The living room (also huge), the kitchen, and the outdoor seating area you share with the owner, Deborah. Living with Deborah was a most pleasant and easy experience. She takes great care of the property, and she is the nicest person and always helpful if you need her, but also respects your privacy if this is more your thing. Then it‘s important to know that the real queens of the property are the two incredibly cute and lovely indoor cats Daisy and Ferdi (we never lived with cats before, but quickly became close friends;). The whole property is incredibly beautiful and living there was truly a once-in-a-lifetime-experience for us. There is really nothing negative to say about this place, and the photos really speak for themselves.

I am so happy I have decided to rent Deborah's suite. Apart of the great view, spacious and quite house, hiking trails just in front of the house, Deborah just make me feel at home. (Believe me it is not an easy task!). Already at the first day, she picked me up at the SF airport! She is shopping with me weekly (since I didn't rent a car this is a huge help), and is sharing her food, if something is lacking. It feels just wonderful to stay here. I cannot imagine to stay at a different place if I'll come to Berkeley again.

As you may have experienced, the best way to feel good and productive when you temporarily leave home for a long stay abroad is to find a place where you feel comfortable and have the opportunity to meet new and wonderful people very quickly. This was particularly important to me as I travelled alone in California without my family and without knowing much people. In that perspective, this place was the best I could ever dream of. As I was not in Berkeley when I was looking for a home, I only discovered the house through the photos on the website. They were very impressive, but they could not fully restore the attractiveness of the place, the beauty of a magnificent panorama, the very functional and elegant architecture, a mixture of glass and wood, very bright and airy. I was able to enjoy a private area with a large bedroom, a small office that can be isolated from the main room by a sliding wall, and a bathroom. But I had access to the entire house, including a fully equipped kitchen, the large living room where you can read by the fireplace in winter, a small patio around the pool where you can dream or enjoy a glass of wine after work in summer. The house is perfectly located, 20 minutes walk from the campus campanile, 7 minutes if you are brave enough like me to ride a bike. In the direction of the campus, it's quite fast and easy, a little bit more difficult when you are going up, but it's an interesting challenge at the end of the day! Just to say that you can perfectly live here without a car, which is quite rare in this area. From the house, you are in San Francisco in one hour with the Bart! The place is quiet, absolutely perfect and inspiring for academic work, with visits from all kinds of animals (deers, turkeys, squirrels, owls, falcons, skunks, etc.), each being charming and quiet. I don't forget the two cats of the house that became very quickly a delightful company. The owner, Deborah, is a charming, very helpful and caring person. Cohabitation has always been very simple and pleasant. I can only wish the next tenants the same pleasure I had during my stay. And please, give me some room if I get a chance to come back! François

My partner and I stayed here for about four months. We looked at the pictures online and signed the lease without coming to visit; I'm so glad we took the leap! The house exceeded our expectations. The house sits in Berkeley Hills and the view overlooks Berkeley, San Francisco, the Golden Gate bridge, and the bay; it is incredible! Also, we enjoyed the easy access to hiking on the fire trails and the daily walk up and down the hill... it's quite a climb. Inside the house is quiet, clean and tastefully decorated, it has a serene feeling. There is a hummingbird feeder directly out the kitchen window and during the winter months we enjoyed building fires in the fireplace almost every night; there are so many small pleasures this home offers. We don't usually like cats, but we enjoyed their presence. I have a mild allergy but one of the siamese cats sat in my lap often and she didn't make me stuffy. The kitchen is well stocked and the home owner doesn't cook often, so we could usually take over the kitchen to cook for a few hours. The home owner is very laid-back and friendly. She also works long hours and we often had the house to ourselves. I could go on and on about how much we enjoyed our time here; we highly recommend it if you're looking for a place to stay close to UC Berkeley.

I was a visiting researcher at Haas business school in 2018 and my wife and I stayed in Berkeley for 6 months. Discovering and having a chance to stay at Deborah’s house made our stay wonderful. The house is truly beautiful. Sitting close to the top of Berkeley hills, at the border of Claremont Canyon, the house location and architecture are exceptional. The house is grand, made mostly of wood and windows. I don’t think one could find a nicer house with a better location and view of the Bay Area and UC Berkeley campus, surrounded by pristine nature. The suite with office corner and wide bathroom is all windows with stunning views, and was very comfortable and private. The living areas and kitchen were spacious. The owner with whom we shared the house is wonderful and warm, as well as her two attaching cats. We loved our daily walks and explorations in the canyon trails next to the house. We are now back in Canada and missing such exceptional environment, Deborah and....the cats! We highly recommend this magnificent house and hope to have another occasion to live there in the future.

I’ve been renting the master room for three months in Winter time. This is the most beautiful place I’ve been living in so far. It has been a dream experience and I hope I’ll have the chance to come back. The location: The villa is on the Berkeley hill in a very calm and peaceful neighborhood. Its location is less than a mile from Haas Business school. It took me is 16 minute walking downhill to Haas and 20 minute to walk up home. It is a very nice walk in the green. I had no car so for my weekly shopping I just ubered back from the supermarket. From the villa you can take many hiking trails and go further up the hill in to the woods. Common areas: The common area of the villa include a fully furnished kitchen, a very large room facing the bay with a dining area and a living-room area. From this room you can enjoy a breathtaking view on the whole San Francisco Bay: from left to right you will see Oakland, San Francisco, The Golden Gate, Alcatraz, Sausalito, Angel Island and up until Richmond and Napa. There also is a smaller separate room with a desk and access to the front terrazza facing the Bay. There is a patio with a swimming pool, lemon trees, maples etc. The master room: It is a spacious room that can (but does not need to) be separated into a night area with a comfortable queen size bed and a working area with a desk just facing a floor-ceiling window. Actually two of the four walls of the room are floor-ceiling windows so that from your bed and/or your desk you can enjoy the view of the Bay and of pine trees nearby the villa. It is an ideal place to work on your papers. During the day, it is not rare to see dears and wild turkeys just 1 or 2 meters from your bed or desk, outside your window. The room includes a comfortable private bathroom and a private toilet and all the space for storing clothes. The host and two indoor cats live in the villa, however most of the day it was just me and the cats. The four of us quickly become good friends. The host has been extremely kind and helpful for all practical matters. Whereas a-priori I was a bit worried about living in the house of somebody I did not know, the sharing has been a very pleasant and enjoyable experience since the very first day. Besides there is more than enough space so that everyone can live his life completely independently. In summary: Pros: Beautiful and spacious place Gorgeous view Very kind host All amenities included: Internet, Netflix, piano… Cats. Cons: If you do not have a car and you are allergic to walking, you might find tiring the walk from the university to the house.

My wife and I stayed here during the Fall 2016 semester, while I participated in a program at UC Berkeley. The house and view are spectacular, and the owners are lovely people. The location is perfect; up on the hill behind the stadium, it is within walking distance to the university. It was quiet, perfect for working/studying with the best views of the Bay I have ever seen, and lots of excellent walking in public parks and trails nearby. The house has a swimming pool, an amazing master suite complete with in-floor heating and a huge bathtub, fully functional kitchen, BBQ and washer/dryer. Most days we were content to read or study in the spacious living room or on the large patio, sometimes sitting next to the fireplace at night. The owners were incredibly helpful in getting us situated and making sure all of our needs were met, even going so far as to get food for us before we arrived and suggesting places to go for weekend excursions to wine country and other places of interest nearby. Their two cats are well-behaved, hypo-allergenic (I am usually allergic, but was totally fine with them), and we came to love them by the end of our stay. My wife and I cannot recommend this house and its owners highly enough; we miss it already.
