Beautiful, renovated townhouse in Mallorca´s Northern village of Fornalutx. It is located about ten minutes from Sóller and its seaport. The Tramontana mountain area and this ancient village are Unesco protected sites for their historical and environmental value. Palma, the capital city with its international airport, is only 35-40 minutes away. The house has two double bedrooms, one bathroom with a large shower, a large kitchen with a dining area, a living room, and a lobby with a piano on the first floor. Rebuilt in the 1920s, the house still keeps many of its modernist features. There is a small but precious rooftop terrace overlooking the town and the valley, great to read and write, have a glass of wine, or a meal. The house is right on the main square, surrounded by cafes, bars, an excellent bakery, six restaurants, a supermarket, a church, and a pharmacy. Fully furnished, high speed WIFI, AC, heating, and excellent water quality and pressure. There is a considerable number of stairs in the house. Not apt for toddlers or anyone in frail physical condition. Each room is on a different floor, separated from the others by a lovely tiled staircase with mahogany railings. Large, modern, well-furnished kitchen and laundry located in the semi-basement; entrance and dining at street level; living room on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the square; double bedroom with another balcony and bathroom on the second; and a large bedroom with access to the roof terrace on the third floor. All rooms but the kitchen have two or three large windows with views to the square and and the mountains. The façade gets full sun from sunrise until about 4:00PM. The village of Fornalutx is in a quiet rural area away from Mallorca´s touristy centers, but it is still well connected to the rest of the island by train, bus, and decent roads. It is a town of about 600 registered locals and a few hundred guests hosted in various rental homes and b&bs at any given time. The square is busy, and sometimes quite noisy, during the day--you will never feel isolated, and if the noise of people bothers you, you can always go up to the top floor and terrace to avoid it. The cafés are right in front of the house and, when the weather is nice, they keep their doors open and outside tables full from early morning until midnight. In the winter, the square is generally quiet by 7-8 PM. The supermarket is well stocked, and it is right across the square. There is a medical center in the village, and larger clinics in the nearest town of Soller. You will need to rent a car to live in this village, unless you are an experienced biker and don't mind curves and steep hills. There are enough free parking areas in the village. In ten minutes, you can drive to the famous Port of Soller, with its cable car, a walkway full of restaurants and shops, a beach, a lighthouse, and a boat club. Soller, a gorgeous town of about 30,000, is only a five-minute drive from Fornalutx. There you can shop at the daily fresh market (fish, meat, produce, delicatessen) and at a large supermarket. There are many local stores, ice-cream shops, cafes, restaurants, architectural sites, etc. On Saturday mornings, the center of town closes to traffic for market day--all sorts of vendors set up stands to sell local fruit, vegetables, deli products, nuts, olives, clothes, shoes, fabrics, baskets, jewelry, etc. I have plenty of extra photos and information to send you if you are interested.
