An academic myself, I am renting out the second bedroom in my flat to visiting scholars & scientists (women only) who are visiting London. NOTE THIS IS ONLY FOR SHORT-TERM RENTALS, A FEW WEEKS MAXIMUM. My home is a 68sq.m, second-floor 2-bedroom flat with a large bathroom, floor-to-ceiling windows in every room, a big balcony, and a dual aspect open plan living room/ kitchen. The flat comes fully furnished and with all the appliances you may need. The building itself is a small, modern block of flats over 4 floors (including the ground floor). The flat is on the 2nd floor and has a lift. The room I'm renting out is the smaller of the two bedrooms, which I normally use as my study/guest room. You would have full use of the room and its amenities during the stay, and would share the common areas of the flat (bathroom included) with me. I am looking to rent it out to fellow academics who need to visit London for a short while, and are looking for a place that has the feeling of home. I live a busy life, but would be on hand to make you feel welcome and -- why not! -- a fascinating conversation across disciplinary boundaries. There are so many things I love about the flat: the big bathtub; having breakfast or working on my balcony (which has a desk); the way the light travels around the flat over the course of the day; the greenery outside; glimpsing the Shard in winter; the quiet; and last but not least, the neighbourhood and the location (on which more below). TRANSPORT The flat (postcode: SE1) is in Bermondsey on the south bank of the Thames, east of Tower Bridge. The nearest station is Bermondsey (Jubilee Line), which about 12-14’ walk on foot; it takes you to Waterloo and central London in a matter of minutes. (And this is London Zone 2, so your Tube costs would be lower.) South Bermondsey Station and Canada Water are also nearby. I personally prefer to travel by bus or by bike, and I chose the flat because it is ideal for both. There are multiple bus routes that stop nearby, notably Route 1 three minutes away, which takes you to Aldwych right next to the LSE/KCL. You can reach any number of places in central London in 25’ by bike (there’s a bike storage room in the basement and I could potentially lend you my bike), or max. 40’ by bus. The flat is particularly well located if you plan to spend time at Goldsmiths or the central London Universities like KCL, LSE, London South Bank, UCL, or SOAS. THE LOCATION Lynton Road is a quiet street lined with trees, minutes away from the Blue, the market that is the heart of old Bermondsey. The Blue has a resident fishmonger, a delicious French bakery, a high-quality butcher, great coffee & gelato places, Turkish grocers where you find everything, and a farmer’s market every Saturday. I love the area. It has all the amenities you might want three minutes from home and yet retains a village feel and a great sense of community (I can vouch for my neighbours, who are lovely people and would be on hand to help during your stay!). For greenery, there’s a garden at the back of the block, and beautiful Southwark Park is ten minutes away. On Spring and Summer days, I love walking along the Thames, fifteen minutes away, to watch the sunset. DETAILS Any questions? Please ask.
1 Month | Dates are flexible for this listing
Comments: The flat is available for one week between 30 March and 6 April 2024, and for a longer period between 9 May and 11 July 2024. For the second period I could consider shorter stays, and there's some flexibility around dates.

Comments: I love the neighbourhood: it is quiet, leafy, and village-like in feel (with a farmer's market, a French bakery, a butcher and fishmonger, Turkish grocers, gelato & coffee places a stone-throw away) yet within easy commute from Central London.
Comments: A deep clean of the flat will have to be performed at the renters' cost at the end of the rental period.
Comments: There's a bike storage room in the basement. There are plenty of parking spaces outside the property. A resident permit or short-term parking slots would have to be purchased.
