This is a cozy, quiet and bright spacious studio in the Porte les Lilas/Belleville neighborhood. It is fully furnished, with a fully equipped kitchen, large computer screen, laser printer, high-speed wifi, etc. Located in a former industrial building, the studio is brightly lit, with a full wall of tall windows, high ceiling and hardwood floors. This is located in the Porte des Lilas/Belleville area, in the 19th arrondissement. The 19th is what Parisians refer to as a "quartier populaire", i.e., a working class neighborhood. It is perfectly safe, it is probably even be safer than the center of Paris since you don't have to worry about pickpockets. This is not typically a touristy area of Paris, however, the studio is 3 minutes away from the 11 metro line, which will bring you right in the heart of Paris (Châtelet) in 15 minutes. The Jourdain area, with all the lovely food shops and cafés is 10 minutes away, as is the Place des Fêtes, a wonderful town square with a fabulous food market 3 times a week. Belleville, the most vibrant immigrant neighborhood in Paris is just a bit below, with affordable restaurants and food shops. If you're a gym rat, there is one literally next door. The studio is fantastically quiet, as it faces a larger inner courtyard that blocks all street noise and the building is made of concrete. So when you have enough of the urban intensity of Paris, you can find some respite home. I think the nicest feature for me is that, unlike other appartements I've lived in Paris, this place doesn't make me feel cramped. The ceilings are high, the windows are enormous, the bathroom is has ample space for the tall North-American that I am and doesn't require a contortionist degree to fold myself into. When you live in the densest city in Europe, that makes a difference in your day-to-day experience. The least appealing feature is probably that you have to walk a bit before you get to a cute area with cafes and bookstores, instead of the next corner --- although there are are two nice bistrots on the corner, it is Paris after all. About myself, I am a professor at UCLA on research leave in Paris. I've lived in Paris a number of times and I am taking off for August to tend to various things in Canada. This is an entirely legit sublet with full consent of the owner who lives in the building. I am not renting this out on AirBnB to squeeze every penny out of this rental --- I am primarily interested in finding someone that will enjoy the space and will be respectful of my belongings and of the other people in the building. If this fits you, let me know!
