Berkeley, California, United States
This contemporary and artistically decorated 2-bedroom 3-bathroom townhome in the delightful “Near Northside” neighborhood is 6 minutes’ walk from the north gate of the UC Berkeley campus. The Accommodation: • The townhome is spacious (1,055 sq ft or 100 sq meters), fully furnished and equipped – including a hair dryer and a rice cooker (!) • It’s suitable for two colleagues, a family, or even two couples. • There is lots of custom character throughout such as crown molding and indirect low voltage “mood” lighting as well as LED. Some really special interior lighting in the living room adds some drama and a little fun. • Downstairs is open-plan, featuring a stylish modern kitchen with an unusual seamless granite countertop, custom tile work, dishwasher, microwave, etc. and a good selection of cooking equipment and utensils. • The living/dining room is comfortable with 2 large sofas. • Downstairs is a full bathroom that includes a stacked Bosch washer and dryer. • As you go upstairs, you will notice the etched glass work and designer tile work inlaid in the wooden stairs. • The upper floor has two bedrooms, each with a private en suite bathroom with shower. • Skylights in bathrooms and the upper hallway add lots of light. • There are small glass work desks in each bedroom, plus there is a third desk downstairs in a nook beneath the stairs. • Bedroom closets and ample kitchen cabinet space. • The floors are hardwood throughout, except for the bathrooms which feature designer tile floors. • The walls adjoining the adjacent townhomes are insulated with sound-reducing and environmentally-friendly recycled denim fiber and green glue (yes! green glue), and there are double-laminated glass windows. While these acoustic measures significantly reduce noise transfer, the walls are not guaranteed to be totally 100% soundproof; sound does carry through open windows, so your neighbors will appreciate it if you are quiet. • High-speed internet (50 megs/sec), Comcast cable with 137 channels - of which 45 are Spanish - and a "smart” TV! The Neighborhood: • Five mature redwood trees opposite the front door! • Virginia Street is quiet and peaceful - at the foot of “Holy Hill" with several seminary schools. The townhome is set back in a flagstone courtyard away from the street. • The walk to the UC campus is a delightful and easy stroll along tree-lined streets. • The adjacent townhomes are usually occupied by university-associated visitors. • You are just one block from Euclid Avenue with a selection of stores, cafes, sandwich shops, and coffee houses. • Berkeley’s famed eateries (formerly nicknamed “Gourmet Ghetto”) on Shattuck Avenue are a 10-minute walk away, featuring iconic dining experiences such as Alice Waters’ Chez Panisse and the Cheeseboard Pizza Collective. • 11-12 minutes’ walk to the Berkeley Rose Garden (where you can see spectacular sunsets) and Codornices Park on Euclid Avenue with a great kids' playground, picnic tables and walking trails. • You can walk to downtown Berkeley and the BART station (Bay Area Rapid Transit system) in about 20 minutes. There is bus service a few blocks away. • Twenty minutes driving will take you to San Francisco across the Bay Bridge (outside of rush hours!), or it’s 20 minutes via BART. Driving to Marin County, Napa Valley and Lake Tahoe are also easy options. Price: • The rate is all-inclusive. We pay the Berkeley business license tax, but it is not charged to you. Cleaning and disinfecting The cottage will undergo a deep cleaning and disinfection before a guest’s arrival, using the CDC guidelines. In addition to the CDC-standard cleaning, we use a BioSpray Surface Cleaner and Sanitizer system. Here’s a quote from their website: “The quick-drying BioSpray D2 removes residual moisture from surfaces and is recommended for use as a sanitizer on food processing equipment, dairy equipment, food utensils, dishes, silverware, glasses, sink tops, countertops, refrigerated storage, and display equipment and other hard nonporous food contact surfaces. Lab calibrated spray-and-shoot technology for more effective coverage, reaching inside even the smallest cracks and crevices, with better results than manual sprayers or wipes.” Also “BioSpray D2 is a combination of isopropyl alcohol and a powerful quaternary ammonium compound.” It is a hospital-grade disinfectant and is “included on EPA list of disinfectants for use against SARS-COV-2 (Search EPA# 73232-1).” The fine print: • One off-street parking space is available for you in the courtyard - assuming you have a normal-size car or small SUV. (There isn’t really enough space to park a huge truck or large SUV such as a Hummer!). • No smoking anywhere in the building or the courtyard! A Berkeley City ordinance prohibits it in multi-unit apartment buildings and common areas. • This is a quiet residential building in a serene neighborhood (beneath redwood trees) Please, no parties or loud noise! • Sorry, no pets.
