Greetings! My name is Elizabeth Bennett (www.ElizabethAnneBennett.com) and I am an Associate Professor of International Affairs at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. A few years ago, I rented my SE Portland (650 sq ft) cottage to a friend when I left for a year-long research sabbatical. It turns out, they LOVE living there and I love the itinerate life. Since then, I've been traveling during the summer and winter breaks and renting when I'm in Portland to teach. The next time I will need a rental is fall 2024 and spring 2025: Fall: Aug 25-Dec 18, 2024 Spring: Jan 20-May 11, 2025 The dates are somewhat flexible - sometimes it is nice to be here longer or I can stay with a friend. Please let me know if you have questions or a potential great fit! There are a few things that are very important to me: 1) abundant natural light throughout; 2) a large sunny window where I can set up my standing desk; 3) good air quality/temperature control; 4) quiet for going to bed early and getting up early to write; 5) laundry in the house/condo/apartment. I travel with my 11 year old yellow Labrador, Rhubarb. I have several (ALL FULLY POSITIVE) references for her from previous/current short term rentals. She is quiet, well trained, gentle, and has been described as “more human than most humans.” She comes to my office and attends most of my classes. We have traveled together extensively and she has lived in many houses/apartments in many places. Rhu has not chewed anything that she is not allowed to chew since she was 4 months old. She only gets on the couch IF invited (in my home she is NOT allowed on the couches). She likes to sleep on top of the bed with me. I have a king sized blanket that is water proof on the inside (like a tarp) and fleece on the outside that I put on top of the bed to protect all of the bedding (which is unnecessary but feels like a courtesy). No balls or frisbees allowed in the house. I wash her dog bed cover and blanket weekly. She has never had fleas, does not roll in or eat poo, and generally smells great because I take her swimming so often and hose her off afterward. She does not jump on people or beg for food or bark for no reason (she will likely bark once if someone comes to the door to let me know there is a visitor). She does not need a leash to stay on the trail/sidewalk and knows left from right. I am allergic to dust and dander and thus sweep/vacuum/dust regularly. I travel with a high-quality air purifier, pet hair attachment for Dyson vacuums (for rugs), and a high-quality robot vacuum which run twice each week. I have had her since she was 6 weeks and given her all the tools she needs to life the type of life I can provide as an academic who travels a lot: a lot of change, love for community living, respect for rental properties, ability to respect beautiful spaces, and high expectations for behavior so that we are always welcome back. I am very, very confident that she will not damage a home. Rhubarb and I have AirBnb references (https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/2344620) as well as multiple, month-long rental references (not though AirBnb) from the past few years. I have never had a problem with her living in someone else's home - she is an innocuous roommate. I am happy to answer any questions: ElizabethBennett@lclark.edu

Comments: Tenured faculty, I've been renting my PDX home to friend since I'm away all summer + winter break. Excellent references :) I travel w/ my 11 y/o yellow lab, often mistaken for a service dog, who attends class, is quiet, stays OFF furniture.
Comments: I am allergic to cats. My 11 year old lab has traveled a lot, is always w/ me, comes to class, described as "more human than most humans." PLEASE ask questions if you are unsure about permitting a dog. She has AirBnb and rental references.
Happy to talk about this. I have a greenthumb and a low threshold for cat dander due to allergies.
Yes, of course.
At my home I cultivated a thriving organic vegetable, fruit, and herb garden and am happy to help.
