Looking for a room sharing commutable to Baruch college

Hi! I'm a male Japanese professor of American Literature at Konan University in Kobe, JAPAN. From March 20 I'm going to have a sabbatical leave and be a research scholar at CUNY Baruch College for 12 months. I'm looking for a housing but since I'm living alone apart from my family, I don't need a large house or apartment for myself and room sharing is good enough. Since everything is expensive in NY, I'd like to keep my rent low: I'd be happy if I could stay in a room at $1200 per month. Since I have a friend in Astoria, if I can find a place in that town, it would be great, but if commutable to Baruch I'm happy to live anywhere. My research field is American literature and my current research interest is in Jewish literature both American and Israeli. I'm learning the Hebrew language. If you are interested in anything Japanese like culture and language I can be of help. Basically, I won't go to school every day and will work at home, reading and writing. I like keeping everything tidy and will cook using the kitchen. I love cats and dogs. I know my budget is low considering the price in NY, but I'd appreciate it very much if you could give me a good and quiet housing for my stay!
