Hello and welcome! This fall, my partner and I will be spending several months in Italy, and we’re excited to offer our house in Berkeley to a person or couple who will enjoy it as much as we do. Our highest priority is to find someone who cares for the house as if it were their own. The house is particularly well suited for visiting academics, researchers, or remote workers. It’s quiet, comfortable, filled with natural light. It offers a peaceful retreat that's close to everything that makes Berkeley unique. The house is a nearly 100-year-old Tudor. The living room is its heart, with soaring ceilings, a fireplace, and abundant natural light. The front and back yards feature beautiful mature trees, a working sauna, and extensive room for gardening. Visitors often remark that they feel as though they’ve stepped into a fairy tale cottage tucked into the hills. The house is walking distance to Tilden Park, miles of trails in the hills, and UC Berkeley’s campus. It’s a short drive, bike, or bus ride to the regional Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system, which can drop you off in San Francisco or Oakland. There are, however, a few charming imperfections that come with a historic house that’s still being renovated. Some walls have been primed but not yet painted. The main bathroom is missing a few tiles. The kitchen is fully functional and well equipped with a gas range and dishwasher, but there are water stains on some cabinet doors and surfaces. The front doors are originals, and they sometimes require patience to properly open and close. The home is comfortable and full of character. **** For those unfamiliar with the Bay Area, the lifestyle is hard to beat. The weather is mild year-round. Apart from its world-class university, Berkeley features abundant restaurants, farmers’ markets, cafes, bookstores, specialty shops, theaters, and parks. Berkeley is in the heart of the Bay Area, right next to Oakland and close to San Francisco. I love the Bay Area because it has a deeply rooted sense of identity, an open-minded and diverse culture, and a rich history defined by intellectual curiosity and civic engagement. Berkeley is a place where people care deeply about their community, their values, and the world around them. **** As some background on me, I am originally from Berkeley, and I graduated from UC Berkeley undergrad. After, I lived in Bologna, Italy, and Washington, D.C. before returning to Berkeley about a year ago. I work for an environmental- and social-certification company based in the Bay Area. Before that, I worked for an international financial institution. My partner is a lawyer who is about to start practicing in California. Before he takes the California bar in February, we’ll be traveling in Italy. We are flexible on timing and logistics for the right match—we’re fortunate to have family nearby with whom we can stay if our dates don’t precisely match. We are happy to arrange a video call, answer questions, and help prospective guests decide whether the home is a good fit. Opening a home requires trust on both sides, and we look forward to finding someone who will enjoy living here and take care of the house as if it were their own.
