Description

The apartment has 3 large, south facing windows that look out on 19th century townhouses, and an oblique view of the HighLine. The apartment is fully furnished including many books and personal effects, dishes, linens, art, and artist designed furniture. The apartment has a desk, and an glass and cast aluminum dining set. The seating area is set between a wall of books and a wall of art, and defined by a large kilim rug. Persian pillows and a 2-meter, silk Arabic style sofa are the seats. The bed is in an alcove with more book shelves. It is raised to provide storage and separation. The queen mattress is organic latex. The kitchen appliances are stainless: a Miele dishwasher, a Viking range, (I prefer the Breville toaster oven) oven, and the fridge with freezer drawers on the bottom. The metal cabinets with glass doors are 30s vintage. The bathroom is mostly original tile, cabinets and bathtub with new designer sink, and fixtures, upholstered seating and large mirrors. The walk-through closet has hanging rods and shelves with canvas bins for storing clothes and accessories. The space is maintained in a green manner. Honeycomb blackout shades protect from sun damage and wasted a/c and heat. Inside the apartment is shoe-free. The Building: The 24-hour doormen are kind and helpful. Elevators, the laundry room and all common areas are well maintained by round the clock maintenance staff. Each floor has a trash chute and recycling bins. Compost bins and a container for used clothes donations are in the basement. The neighbors are polite and friendly, even the ones on 2 legs. The Neighborhood: art-- West Chelsea is the heart of the New York art market. There are hundreds of galleries in the immediate area. Some galleries sponsor performance and lectures too. parks-- The HighLine (https://www.thehighline.org) is less than a block from the front door. It leads up to Hudson Yards (for those who like malls) and the Javitz Center, and #7 subway line. It runs south to the shops and restaurants of the Meatpacking District, and The Whitney Museum, which has fabulous decks for viewing the city in addition to its art. Hudson River Park is a cross block from my front door and runs along the Hudson River south to Battery Park City, and north past The Intrepid Museum. The park has several piers, including the best one that is at to 24th Street. There is a fantastic carrousel featuring local critters at 22nd Street. HRP hosts film screenings, concerts and nature events. Just below 14th Street is a newish pier park, Little Island (https://littleisland.org, which is an architectural curiosity with summer concert series. 192 Books is a gem of a shop for those who love art, literature and children's books. Restaurants to satisfy a wide range of palates and budgets are nearby. For groceries there is a farmers market on Saturdays one block away, and Union Square farmers market all day, 4 days a week, is about a 20 minute walk or quick bus ride. In addition to several more local stores: Garden of Eden, Hudson Market, Chelsea Market, and small shops there are two Whole Foods--each about 10 minutes leisurely walk. Manhattan Wine Company at 28th Street and Eleventh Avenue is a destination shop for small production wines and spirits. The C&E subway lines are two cross blocks away, and very nearby are bus stops serving up, down and across town transit. This building is perfectly located near the river and lots of parks, yet still in the midst of lots of cultural and educational spots, and central to the whole city. With in easy walking distance are all sorts of religious houses of worship, comedy clubs, music clubs, restaurants, stores, and parks. The city is buzzing around this building, yet it is quiet at night as this area is zoned residential. The only bars in the vicinity are in small restaurants. This is a healthy home, not a hotel. Hopefully the energy will attract a lovely guest.
