Small house by the sea in Portugal

We had a perfect experience and would definitely recommend Vanda's house. The guest house is located in the outskirts of Cascais and is conveniently close to Guincho beach and the Sintra mountains. Anyone who likes outdoors activities will definitely appreciate its location. Grocery stores, restaurantes and other facilities are also close by, and so is the center of Cascais from where trains to Lisbon take off. The guest house is a perfect place for a sabbatical and is also great to work from it. Both Vanda and José Manuel were great hosts, they made us feel like at home, were always accesible but gave us all the space we needed. We hope to return!

Vanda's cottage is a beautiful spot in a small town close to Sintra and the surrounding beaches. The house is located in Vanda's beautiful garden and includes a lovely terrace that is perfect for writing, enjoying a meal or just breathing in the lovely seaside breeze. I stayed at Vanda's house for a self-imposed writing retreat and could not have picked a better place. Guincho Beach is a 20-30 min stroll from the house, with the option of passing through the Cresmina Dunes. It is easy to get to Cascais, but Areia also has some great restaurants. The perfect combination for a lovely get away or for an academic retreat. Vanda is a generous and kind host, and I hope to return soon. Highly recommend!

We had a really nice time staying at this bungalow by the sea.

I wanted a change of scene while writing my thesis and can recommend staying here. There is a good table in the living area and a desk in the bedroom. We had clean sheets and towels provided for us and we received new ones each week. The place was clean and had everything we needed and we cooked and ate at home as well as exploring places in the local area. The hosts were lovely people as well!

While you don't need a car, since you can walk to the beach in 15 minutes and there are some things in the village, we found having a car allowed us to explore the broader area, including Lisbon, beaches up the coach and hikes in Sintra.

I would recommend this beautiful little house to anyone who is looking for a quiet spot by the sea. I stayed for a month, with the hope of finding some solitude in which to write, and I found it was perfect. I wrote all day and went for walks in the evening. The house is charming, clean, and sunny, I felt very comfortable working and living there. For one person it was very spacious, there was even enough storage to hide my suitcases away. It has everything you need except laundry, and the hosts will do that for you if you like. Vanda is lovely, she was helpful and responsive, but also left me alone to do my thing. I especially appreciated that she helped me get oriented at first to where things were in and around the village. I felt very well taken care of. The village itself is quiet, and has most everything you need for everyday (cafe, mini-market, good restaurants). It is just a 15 minute walk to the seaside where you can walk through the dunes and to two beautiful beaches. I often took the bus into Cascais to go to the excellent farmer's market, and I found it to be an easy trip to Lisbon as well, as a train runs very frequently from Cascais. I'm very grateful for the lovely month here, and I hope I'll be back again soon!

I had an amazing stay at this place. Excellent accommodation for a quiet and peaceful stay if you are writing or just having some rest. Very kind, welcoming and friendly owners. Wonderful little house, close to the ocean, aminities, and the farmers market where you can get fresh veggies, fish and pasteries. I felt very comfortable and safe staying there by myself. I miss writing in the sun in the beautiful little garden, the birds, the flowers and the beach ... I would go back with no hesitation.
