The apartment is on Boulevard Richard Lenoir, midway between the Place de la Bastille and the Place de la République. It is close to three subway stations (lines 5, 8, and 9) and is a short subway ride away from the Sorbonne, the Censier and Diderot university campuses, the BnF, and the Cinémathèque. It is a safe neighborhood. The Boulevard Richard Lenoir is a tree-lined avenue that was built over part of the famous canal Saint Martin. From the apartment, you can take a walk along the uncovered portion of the canal, with its picturesque bridges and locks. There are two open markets, Bastille and Popincourt, both a few minutes away on Boulevard Richard Lenoir: The Bastille market, one of the largest in Paris, is very popular with local inhabitants and tourists alike. There are also several supermarkets and multiple food shops nearby. The Place des Vosges and Marais neighborhood are within walking distance, as are the Opéra Bastille and the Coulée Verte (an elevated 5-km park comparable to New York's high line). The Pompidou Center is about a half-hour walk or a short subway or bus ride away. The apartment is located on the third floor of a late nineteenth-century building with elevator. It overlooks the trees and elongated park of boulevard Richard Lenoir. All rooms have high ceilings, moldings, and large windows. What made us fall in love immediately with the apartment when we bought it ten years ago was the light. We also love the location, the easy access to multiple cultural institutions, and the proximity to very diverse neighborhoods that can be endlessly explored. The front door opens onto a spacious entryway with a large bookcase. The living room and study/bedroom have balconies facing the boulevard and have a Western exposure. The living room is furnished mostly with antiques : a dining room table and six chairs, some armchairs, an armoire, and some smaller furniture, as well as a small couch. The bedroom, which opens onto a small quiet courtyard, has a double bed, a desk and three closets, and the necessary linen. The third room, which was set up as a study, has a desk, two single beds, a bookcase, and a closet. The kitchen was entirely renovated by an architect four years ago, with custom-made cabinets and a breakfast table where we eat our meals when we don't have guests. It is fully equipped with new machines: stove, oven, microwave oven, dishwasher, washer dryer, food processor, coffee maker, etc. The bathroom, which the same architect renovated a year ago, has a tub with shower, a towel radiator and a hair dryer. The whole apartment was repainted a year ago also. It is equipped with full telephone, internet and cable television service. Calls to the US, Canada, and Europe are free.
