Our home is an ideal match for you if you're looking to get away from it all and relax or get inspired by the breath-taking nature on your doorstep. In our opinion, it's ideal for artists, academics and/or writers. The house is set within the historic centre of a small 11th C stone village. It's been beautifully restored and contains all modern amenities for your comfort. You enter the home through a sunny, private courtyard where you can enjoy meals any time of day -- accompanied by bread from the excellent boulangerie in the centre of the village as well as local wine and cheese, of course. Up the stairs to the front door you enter straight into the large open plan living room. Cosy in the Winter and airy in the Summer. The original stone walls keep in the heat during the Winter and enable the house to stay cool in the Summer. The sitting room hosts a fireplace, and a TV with both French and English satellite channels (please note it's not a smart TV so if you're keen to watch Netflix, Prime or any other subscription service you'll need to use an HDMI cord to connect to a laptop/tablet or ChromeCast usb). There are a variety of books and boardgames in the home, which you're also welcome to borrow while staying with us. The living room gives on to a large dining room with a local farm-style table that accommodates 6-8 guests. The dining area looks onto the open kitchen where we've used slate from the region for countertops and included a breakfast nook or desk for your convenience. The kitchen island has an induction stove and stores all the necessary cookware and appliances you might need to create memorable meals. The kitchen is West-facing, which makes for beautiful light towards the end of the afternoon or late evening in the Summer. At the top of the stairs on the first floor you'll find a large double bedroom furnished from the local antique shops for which this area is well known. Pezenas in particular hosts famous antiques fairs. The landing presents a large bathroom and WC with an original clawfoot bathtub, and a washing machine next door. The main double bedroom has its own dressing and en-suite bathroom with shower. Upstairs on the third floor we have another bedroom with two single beds, which may also be used as an office space if preferred. A few things to note: The house has radiators to keep it nice and toasty in the Winter. While Winters tend to be sunny and bright, mornings and evenings can feel chilly. The house does not have air conditioning but plenty of airflow from the prevailing winds and the stone walls tend to keep it cool. The house will be throughly cleaned before your arrival and we can arrange for cleaners during your stay if required. The beds all have fresh linens and we'll provide you towels, too. There’s a drying rack you can use, which we tend to store in the top bedroom, however we can also organise for someone to change your linens if you prefer. There is no private parking outside our home, however there are two parking lots within minutes walk to the house by the river and the church, and street parking is always available (less so in July and August). While there is a small pharmacy and grocery store in the village, we recommend driving to Roujan’s large Super U (5-10 min drive) for choice and quality options from wine to household cleaning supplies to fresh fish, and a large selection of organic groceries. We're an easy 45-minute drive from Montpellier, 25-minute drive to Beziers, 15-minutes from Pezenas, and 5-minutes to Roujan. Beautiful beaches are within 30-40 minutes, and we have a ton of proposed hikes that range from our doorstep to a 60-minute drive away. You will need to rent a car to get around. [Even though we are currently accepting bookings, we have sadly decided to sell our home this year due to a change in professional circumstances. If you're interested in enquiring about a purchase, please do indicate that in your message.]
