Owners: Jesse Read--Professor Emeritus, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC Canada, held tenured positions also at the University of Victoria and University of Delaware. He is currently teaching music courses at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, where co-owner Rapti Dietrich also teaches courses in linguistics. We acquired this house in the historic centre of the beautiful old village of Pezenas 4 years ago. It has a completely independent ground floor apartment, which would be an ideal location for a sabbatical or get-away for writing, research or study. A university is not situated directly in Pezenas, but several of the more important French universities are located in Montpellier, 45 minutes away. There are also universities in Beziers, Narbonne and Toulouse. Pézenas is a town of medieval streets, Renaissance architecture, craft shops, art studios, theatres, museums, and charming restaurants. It is only 20 minutes from the beaches of the Mediterranean, 50 km from Montpellier, and close to many historic sites. The main square, the pulse of the town, is a one-minute walk away. There is free parking within walking distance. The apartment makes up the entire ground floor (over 80 sqm) of a 17th century house. It is a fully self-contained, air-conditioned space with no stairs. There is a master bedroom with a double bed, and another large bedroom that has 3 single beds. Two of the single beds can make up another double bed if desired. There is secluded access to the bathroom from both this room and the master bedroom by means of fa curtained-off passageway. The master bedroom leads to a large living room with TV, and a small, practical kitchen equipped with two hot plates, microwave, fridge, toaster, etc. There is also a large dining table for indoor meals. The living room leads out into a lovely, secluded, stone-walled courtyard full of plants and a large tree. There is a table for outdoor meals, two deckchairs for unwinding, and a barbecue. It is quiet and very private with high ivy-covered walls, a rare green oasis of serenity in the centre of the historic town. The plants provide shade and allow you to stay cool even on the hottest summer days. It can get very hot in the south, and a cool outside space in central Pezenas is usually hard to find. The suite comes with a washing machine, wifi, ultrafast fibre-optic internet, a library with French/English books and some children’s books (in French), and plenty of closet space. There is also a full-sized table in the second room for work, games or children’s activities, a large stand fan, an iron with board, a hair dryer, and extra blankets. The suite has been decorated with care, mostly with the photographs of the owner, a professional photographer and classical musician. The house is situated on a quiet residential street. Also, we welcome children.
