When people enter this apartment, they say 'wow' at the sight of the 70m2 living room! It's is really spacious and luminous, situated on the first floor of a historical building, close to all amenities and street life of Leiden, the canals, terraces, markets and museums. Just opposite is a French bakery - the best in town! The neighbourhood is busy with cyclists and lively with students, so not a silent place at all: in fact you will hear many languages spoken on the street below in this cosmopolitan centre. There's a supermarket just downstairs, very convenient! (You will also hear the noise of them unloading their goods!) However, for a change of atmosphere, all you have to do is walk a few minutes to the Plantsoen, a lovely 19th century park where you can also begin the Singel walk, a route around the historical centre of town. This apartment is home to an academic and an artist (printmaker), and a dog. It is quite an indulgent space for just a couple, with many comfortable features: the bathroom has a spa bath and audio speakers: the living room has a projector, screen and surround sound. There is a double bed in the main bedroom, and a comfortable sofa bed in the second bedroom. Unusually for Northern Europe, there is air-conditioning in the master bedroom: this is seldom necessary but is comfortable in some of the hot summers. The kitchen is well equipped and in addition, there is a second fridge, and a wine fridge. There is also a utility room, with work bench, sink, washer, dryer, and a suspended drying rack. The office/ studio space is open and light, and the double stained glass doors can be opened to the living area or closed and the blinds drawn for more privacy. It's equipped with a colour laser printer. There is a geared etching press and an antique book press in the house. I use the work bench in the utility room, and the large table in the office for my art work. In the same building, there is a covered, secure parking space which can be rented separately. I have indicated that the apartment is wheelchair-friendly: there is a stair-lift, and the internal doors are wide. The bathroom has a shower with a seat. However, in case of reduced mobility, please check with us first that the space will really work for you. Leiden streets are cobbled, and there are the ubiquitous bikes, often parked inconsiderately, which just doesn't make it the best place for a wheelchair, unfortunately. Leiden is utterly charming, with lots to see and do. It's all on your doorstep in this apartment, and you really don't need either a car or a bike. If you want a change from a wine-bar type place, right at the end of the street there's a local pub, a down -to - earth authentic "brown cafe" where you can sit outside and have a drink amongst the mix of people in this neighbourhood, or go along to some of the music sessions in the evening. It's a fun place to live!

Comments: This is a luxury loft-type apartment in a renovated 19th century industrial building, situated in the historical centre of Leiden. It is convenient for everything Leiden has to offer, and for public transport. Secure car parking also available.
Comments: Not offered as a student rental. Secure covered car parking in the same building can be negotiated. I have a dog myself and would be happy to allow a pet in the apartment, as long as no damage is done: the apartment is very recently redecorated.
