Historic House in Picturesque Eastern Pyrenean Village

'Entre mer et montagne,' Céret is ideally located 12 km from the Spanish border, 25 km from the Mediterranean and 20 km from Perpignan (the train station with TGV connections to Paris and Barcelona can be reached via a 1 euro bus connection or it's an easy drive into Céret). The house, once the home of a local painter, is situated on a former monastery site. it combines 1.5 renovated bathrooms and new appliances with historic charm, original cement tile floors, windows, shutters etc. From the completely walled and fenced garden or the roofed terrace one can watch the sun rise over the Mediterranean and the sun go down over the Pyrenean peak, the Canigou. I am a US-based academic and the house is equipped with a small library, a printer, wifi, desks, work spaces, a piano, easels etc ... Situated on the edge of the village on a cul de sac, the house looks out onto the lovely countryside, but one is only five minutes on foot from all amenities. Céret (popn 8,000) has a large, year round Saturday market, approx. 10 bakeries, 3 butchers, a fishmongers, a cheese shop, a beer shop, 4 organic stores (2 in town and 2 on the outskirts), numerous bigger supermarkets, and a range of restaurants and cafés. Culturally rich, Céret boasts a world class museum of modern art, galleries, a music school and 2 bookstores. It has several schools, at the lycée (high school), college (middle school) and elementary levels. There are year-round festivals and animations and a biweekly cinema club (Oct-May). A recreational paradise, possible outdoor activities include hiking and cycling from the door, swimming and wind surfing, running (there's a club in town), tennis, parapente, ...
