The Wheeler Lodge is a 1900 Arts and Crafts bungalow on a quarter-acre lot in the Edgewood section of Cranston, offered fully furnished for the 2026–2027 academic year (September through June). 4,031 square feet across three floors with four bedrooms, three full baths, and two dedicated home offices. Original woodwork, stained glass, and built-ins are intact throughout, complemented by a thoughtful program of recent renovations — including a custom 2025 third-floor primary suite with vaulted ceilings, exposed rafters, and a hand-finished Moroccan tadelakt plaster shower. The updated kitchen features a soapstone island, induction range, Bosch dishwasher, hanging pot rack, and amber-glass cabinetry. A working Jøtul wood stove and ceiling-mounted projector anchor the living room; a sunroom with windows on three sides serves as a quiet workspace or breakfast nook. The home is tastefully furnished — vintage rugs over original hardwood, warmer wall color in a few rooms, a comfortable mix of modern and older pieces. Stylish but understated. Verizon Fios gigabit internet supports a household of remote workers in parallel — one office is set up for serious dual-monitor work, the other for writing or grading. Radiator heat plus a minisplit in the primary suite; central A/C on the second floor. Rooftop solar offsets a portion of the home's electric usage. Sleeping arrangements (up to 10): primary suite on the third floor (king, vaulted ceiling, en-suite); Bedroom 2 (queen); Bedroom 3 (full); Bedroom 4 (full + full-size futon). Plus a small guest office with a twin bed for occasional visitors. Three full baths: a teal-and-slate primary main bath with jacuzzi tub and separate glass shower; a vintage green-tile family bath with double vanity; and the new 2025 en-suite off the third-floor primary. THE GARDEN The grounds reflect years of careful, intentional planting across the quarter-acre lot under a mature oak canopy. A productive orchard — cherry, sour cherry, apple, peach, dwarf Asian pear, and elderberry — plus concord grape vines, dogwood, a native-grass front meadow, bamboo, rosehip, and raised vegetable beds for annual veg and herbs. Tenants are welcome to harvest what ripens during the lease. A fenced backyard with a height-adjustable basketball hoop in the driveway, a deep wraparound front porch for evenings, a back patio for outdoor dining among the oaks, and off-street parking for 5–6 cars. NEIGHBORHOOD Edgewood is one of Cranston's most walkable neighborhoods — anchored on one end by Roger Williams Park (435 acres, with a zoo, Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, Japanese garden, paddleboats, and a carousel) and on the other by historic Pawtuxet Village with its restaurants, cafés, marinas, and the salt marshes of Stillhouse Cove. Five minutes on foot to either. LOCATION Just 10 minutes from Brown University, RISD, and College Hill — about 4 miles. 10 minutes to downtown Providence, 10 to T.F. Green Airport, 15 to Providence College and Rhode Island College, about an hour to Boston / Logan. The RIPTA R-Line — Rhode Island's busiest and most frequent bus, running every 10–15 minutes from before dawn until past midnight — has its southern terminus a short walk from the door. From there, a straight shot to downtown Providence. MBTA Commuter Rail to Boston runs from Providence Station (10 minutes north by car). OFFERED FOR Visiting faculty, sabbatical scholars, traveling clinicians, and families relocating to Providence for the academic year. Pets considered on approval. The owners do not live on-site during the lease.
