I am a recently retired Architect & architectural illustrator in traditional mediums such as watercolor, with clients in NYC & globally. I live alone in the ground floor apartment. I am very quiet, friendly, responsive, cheerful, & available for help &/or info when requested. I have lived in Sharon for 30 years, after years in NYC. Prior to NYC I lived in central SC where I grew up, Atlanta for college/work, & Miami for work. I was in architecture firms in all of these locations. In Sharon since 1997, I've worked out of home as an architectural illustrator, with a backyard studio, for architectural & cultural clients around the world. My former wife worked out of home in Sharon also, as an Interior Designer, for clients primarily in NYC. We both drove or took the train to NYC often. I have one adult child, & a creative 6 year old granddaughter. My son's family lives in NYC & they visit on occasion, all are quiet & cheerful. My daughter-in-law is an Architect in NYC; my son is in the electrical industry, & they met at Cooper Union college in NYC. They are all creative. I have loved every minute of living in Sharon, as it is extremely scenic & cultural. I am taking private French lessons locally in my retirement, as I love France & Europe. Many of my friends in the area came from NYC, or continue to live part-time in city & country. The well-known artist Jasper Johns is currently creating a prestigious artists residency in the village, 1/2 mile from the apartment, which will add to the appeal of the Sharon region, as his organization is very respectful of the character of the village & region. There are many arts & cultural organizations in the area, & classic village libraries of architectural merit. There are a number of nationally top-tier private high schools in the area & region. Sharon is a 15 min. drive to the end of a commuter train to NYC Grand Central. The ride is a very scenic & comfortable 2-1/4 hr ride, great for doing work, reading, relaxing, etc, & one always get seats from here. I used it for the 25 years that I had active clients in NYC. Being a voracious reader, I have an extensive 2000 volume library of art, architecture, history, literature, all topics, that I am setting up in the backyard barn, & this library might be available to the tenant, TBD. I'm a dedicated lap swimmer at the beautiful YMCA pool a 25 min. drive from Sharon, in Canaan, CT. There are many yoga studios, physical therapists, public/private gyms & a YMCA within 30 minutes of the apartment. There are trails long & short for every hiking level, including the Appalachian Trail that goes through Sharon. Sharon's Scoville Library is by the same Architect who did the famous landmark Le Chateau Fontenac in Quebec Canada, & is on the Village Green, a 3 minute walk from the apartment. The off-Broadway summer theater Sharon Playhouse is a 10 minute walk away. There is a great multi-screen cinema in Millerton NY, with popular, foreign, & independent films, a 10 minute drive away. There are many used & new bookstores in the region, all interestingly curated. This region is a well-known antique destination. The Housatonic River with a covered bridge is nearby. There are many architectural gems in the region, residential & public, including modern & historical houses well-known in the architectural industry. Scenic Route 7 goes through Sharon, along the Housatonic River, & the 2 hr drive to Bennington VT goes through the heart of the Berkshires. There are many historical sites along the way, including the Clark Institute of Art in Williamstown MA, with a modern addition by the Architect Tadao Ando. Because Sharon is in the heart of the Litchfield & Berkshire art/cultural world, many from NYC have weekend homes in the area. Within a 5-15 minute walk or 5 minute drive from the apartment are: fine coffee/sandwiches, food market, 2 wine shops, gas station, banks, PO, French restaurant, Green, library, summer theater, design/antique shops, & more.
