Description

We are offering our beloved Branford home as an academic-year rental and hope to find tenants who will enjoy it as much as we do. My husband is a faculty member at the Yale School of Medicine and a physician-scientist at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System. I work for NPR in DC. We live full-time in a condominium in downtown New Haven and purchased this house as our shoreline summer retreat. We have undertaken an extensive renovation, carefully updating the property while preserving the warmth and character that first made us fall in love with it. Because we spend much of the year in New Haven, we use the house primarily during the summer months. Rather than leave it empty during the academic year, we would love to share it with someone who appreciates historic homes, coastal living, and thoughtfully designed spaces. The house is located in the Branford Point Historic District, one of the most charming neighborhoods on the Connecticut shoreline. It is a short walk to the Long Island Sound and a neighborhood beach where residents enjoy swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, and evening walks along the water. Branford itself is a wonderful coastal town, known for its harbor, independent restaurants and cafés, farmers market, town green, and easygoing New England character. Inside, the home has been completely renovated and thoughtfully furnished. The kitchen and dining area form the heart of the house, with navy cabinetry, butcher-block countertops, and generous gathering space. Throughout the home you'll find built-in bookcases, custom millwork, original wood floors, curated furnishings, and abundant natural light. We have tried to create a space that feels welcoming, charming, comfortable, and distinctive rather than simply functional. The home includes two bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, and a spacious primary suite with a walk-in closet and private bath. There is also a sleeping loft that provides additional space for visiting family or friends. Outside, the private backyard includes a hot tub, grill, and outdoor seating areas that make it easy to enjoy warm evenings after a day of work or study. One of the things we value most about this location is that it offers the best of both worlds: the peace of a shoreline community and easy access to Yale and New Haven. The Branford train station is approximately half a mile from the house, and the train ride into downtown New Haven takes only a few minutes. Yale University, Yale New Haven Hospital, and the city's museums, restaurants, and cultural attractions are also a short drive away. We believe this home would be especially well suited for Yale faculty, visiting scholars, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, medical professionals, or others spending an academic year in the area. We are ideally looking for either a couple or two friends who would enjoy living together in the house and who will treat it with the same care and respect that we do. As anyone who has renovated a historic home knows, these projects become labors of love. We have invested significant time, energy, and resources into creating a comfortable and beautiful retreat, and we hope to find tenants who will appreciate the home's character and take good care of it during their stay. If you are looking for a furnished academic-year home that combines shoreline charm, historic character, and easy access to Yale and New Haven, we would be delighted to hear from you.
