I'm a museum curator and academic heading to the US for six months for a research fellowship. I'd love for a fellow academic to make use of my home while I am away. It's a very spacious top-floor new-build flat which my husband and I bought in 2020, and we are the only people who have ever lived here. It's at the top of a small development of just nine flats, with a lovely community of friendly neighbours. It's a quiet residential neighbourhood in Purley in Croydon, South London. It's about a 15-minute walk to Purley rail station which has excellent transport links to Central London on both the Southern (24 mins to London Victoria) and Thameslink (40 mins to St Pancras) services. There is a large Tesco superstore in Purley town centre along with a few nice cafes, several Pilates studios, and a new luxury gym (Hylton Health Clubs opening in September 2026). A short bus ride or one stop on the train gets you to East Croydon, which has lots more shops and restaurants including a BoxPark with lots of great pop-up and streetfood stalls. You'll benefit from: - Large master bedroom with super-king size bed (for US visitors, that's bigger than a US queen but a little smaller than a US king), built-in wardrobes, and en-suite bathroom with rain shower. - Second (main) bathroom with shower and bathtub - Large open-plan living space with kitchen, big comfortable sofa and large TV - First office/workout space has desk with Herman Miller chair, sofa, TV and Peloton bike which you are welcome to use - Second office space (connected to main living area via sliding double doors) has a sit/stand desk with Herman Miller chair and large Chesterfield armchair. - Bedroom and both office spaces have air conditioning (very unusual for the UK!) - Kitchen has dishwasher, oven, microwave, induction hob, kettle, toaster and coffee machine. - Washer/drier located inside the flat in a small utility room/cupboard. - Small west-facing balcony with lovely sunset views. - Private off-street parking space with EV charger. We are happy to consider pets on a case-by-case basis. Our own small dog lives here with us normally. Please note that it is a second-floor property (or if you're from the US, you'd call it third floor) and there is no lift/elevator to access the flat, so unfortunately it isn't wheelchair-accessible or suitable for anyone who may have difficulty climbing stairs.
