Make yourself at home in this bright, fully furnished private studio in one of Northampton’s charming historic neighborhoods. Just a short walk from Smith College and downtown, the studio is especially well suited to visiting faculty, scholars, graduate students, professionals, and others looking for a comfortable home for a semester, sabbatical, or extended stay. The studio is completely detached from our main house and located above the garage at the back of the property. With its own private entrance, windows on three sides, and a private roof deck surrounded by trees, it offers a peaceful and private space while keeping the best of Northampton within easy walking distance. THE SPACE The studio is stylishly and comfortably furnished with original art and thoughtful details throughout. Windows on three sides provide abundant natural light. The open living and sleeping area includes: Queen-size bed Dedicated workspace with desk and chair Comfortable space for reading and relaxing Galley kitchen Wi-Fi Air conditioning Linens and towels Hair dryer Compact private bathroom with pocket door The private roof deck has outdoor seating and is a lovely spot for morning coffee, reading, or relaxing at the end of the day. LOCATION One of the best features of the studio is its location. Smith College and downtown Northampton are both an easy walk from the house. You can leave the car at home and walk to cafés, restaurants, bookstores, shops, galleries, museums, live music, and other downtown events. The studio is also well located for the broader Five College area, with easy access to UMass Amherst, Amherst College, and Mount Holyoke College. PARKING One off-street parking space is included in our shared driveway. We park two cars here as well, so everyone simply needs to leave enough room to come and go. PRIVACY We live in the main house with our two kids. The studio is detached from our home and is a completely separate unit with its own entrance and private deck. We’re an active family with musicians in the house, and Will occasionally works on hobby woodworking projects in the garage below the studio. You may hear music, woodworking, kids outside, or other neighborhood sounds from street level or when the windows are open, but these generally aren’t noticeable inside the studio. We’re nearby if you need anything, while otherwise respecting your privacy. GOOD TO KNOW The studio is located above the garage and is accessed by stairs, so it is not an ADA accessible unit. There is no washer or dryer in the studio. Laundromats are available nearby. This is a strictly non-smoking property. No smoking or vaping is permitted inside the studio, on the deck, or anywhere on the property. IDEAL FOR This studio is particularly well suited to one person or a couple seeking furnished housing for a semester or extended stay. It would be an excellent fit for visiting Smith faculty or scholars, sabbatical stays, academic appointments, temporary professional assignments, or someone relocating to the Northampton area.
