A perfect place to get away and immerse yourself in natural surroundings in an ancient building which was once a Roman watchtower; be in nature, relax, write, chill and create! For the right kind of people, my home on the Tuscan/Umbrian border can be your base for a very rewarding and peaceful stay in the countryside of Umbria, Italy in authentic Italian ambiance. If you want to come to live in a home, not a tourist rental, something original and imaginative, comfortable and cozy, you will like my home. Imagine looking at these views every day, all pictures were taken from immediately around the house. The ever changing light creates such beautiful scenery. Although this "apartment" is part of a larger building, it does not feel like an apartment. My longtime neighbors are discreet, keep to the other side of the building, and are of help when needed. Family meals can be arranged or prepared meals by Sergio who is a professional chef, or Emma and Soudy who are excellent chefs and know how to good vegan very creatively. My quiet unique one bedroom place is ideal for study and contemplation; writers, artists, art historians -come and enjoy my unique home, I now live part time in Greece. Casa del Grano is not far from San Sepolcro, Gubbio, Siena is an hour away, Cortona, a half hour's drive. Mercatale di Cortona is the closest village. Plentiful shopping choices and a weekly market are to be found in Umbertide. The countryside here is just too beautiful to describe and my part of the colonica is the ancient Roman Watchtower; here you are surrounded by history -this farmhouse is part of the Sorbello Castle Estate the fortress/castle is just across the valley, many small hill towns with Assisi or Perugia are less than 40 minutes away. As I am located on the Tuscan-Umbrian border, you get the best of both worlds for touring the hill towns. While I find this place fascinating, it is to some quite rustic. This is not a remodeled Tuscan villa. Casa del Grano is a place for enjoying peace and quiet, nature, and history, it is welcoming and comfortably furnished with antiques and period pieces;I am an artist, traveller, and a sailor. My home is filled with curious and beautiful objects that I have collected in my travels and original artworks; it is a cozy place for one or two guests. Available at other times than listed, please inquire. Heating in the winter is extra, it is expensive. In the winter, I live with layers on, and use the wood burning stove. A deposit of $70/week or $200/month to cover utilities will be required for winter stays. You will be reimbursed for any overpayment.
