Cosy retreat in the heart of historical Spain with breathtaking views on the surrounding hills from its terrace. Ideal for writing and studying. Consisting of the main house and a small studio. Built on the 12th century walls of medieval Almazán, once capital of the old Spain. Rebuilt with respect to local traditions, close to the medieval town gate. The mainhouse is equipped with all modern amenities like central floorheating, and has a delightful corral (120 square meters) with three levels where you can enjoy endless summer evenings. On the medieval wall itself is a small studio-suitable for two people- with a large terrace that's overlooking the hills where you can watch beautiful sunsets. Soria is even for many Spaniards a well kept secret (www.sorianitelaimaginas.com). Here you are in 'la España profunda': this environment, the people you meet in the little streets with its many bars , it all might remind you of the pictures of Spains great cineast Pedro Almodovar. Unspoiled nature invites to hiking in the pinewoods and the Sierra de Urbión, biking on the Camino del Cid, not far away from Camino de Santiago. Scattered around the countryside you'll find old sleepy villages. Sport facilities in town: a.o.tennis court and swimmingpool. Good public transport, several times a day bus and train to Madrid, appr. 2 hours. Public library is around the corner; bars, restaurants and shops at walking distance. You're staying in the middle of history: you will find castles, roman churches and Celtiberian ruins (Numancia). The Palace of the Mendoza family - where Joanna the Mad as a child stayed- is at the Plaza Mayor. This is not a 'standard home'. It will give you the peace of mind and inspiration you need. To get an impression of Soria and Almazán: watch youtube "Video de promoción turística de Almazán." Or read 'Sunset in Spain', written by Erna Walraven, one of my former guests in Almazán.
