Our much-loved home is a beautifully renovated 120-year-old Queenslander-style cottage in Brisbane's inner south, less than 5 km from the CBD. Light-filled, leafy and private, it offers the unusual combination of a peaceful, relaxed home surrounded by greenery while being exceptionally convenient to the city, universities, hospitals, public transport and local cafés and restaurants. The house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, including a king bedroom with ensuite, a second bedroom with a queen bed and built-in wardrobe, and a third bedroom with a built-in robe that we use as a home office, reading and meditation room, with a comfortable queen sofa bed for guests. There is also a second desk in the front sunroom, and the covered back deck provides another lovely place to work. Fast Wi-Fi and excellent natural light throughout make working from home very comfortable. The main living area is open-plan, air-conditioned and comfortably furnished, with a lounge, TV and BOSE speaker, and an extendable dining table seating up to eight. The light and airy kitchen is fully equipped for people who enjoy cooking, with a Miele oven and gas cooktop, new Bosch dishwasher, coffee grinder and French presses, and a full range of cookware and appliances. The house opens onto a covered back deck overlooking our private, shady subtropical garden. There are several places to sit or eat outdoors, a barbecue and fire pit, a small herb garden guests are welcome to use, and a plunge pool immediately off the deck — particularly lovely in Brisbane's warmer climate (we swim most of the year). The garden is green, peaceful and low-maintenance. Despite the sense of seclusion, almost everything you need is close by. Buses and trains are within walking distance, as are cafés, restaurants, shopping and several kilometres of parklands and waterways. The CBD, South Bank and Brisbane Botanic Gardens are easily reached by bicycle. The University of Queensland, Griffith University and QUT campuses are all nearby, as are the Princess Alexandra, Mater and Greenslopes Private hospitals. There is undercover parking as well as street parking, and the major universities, hospitals and CBD are an easy drive away. Use of our vehicle and e-bike may also be available by arrangement. The house has air-conditioning and heating, ceiling fans in every room, a new washing machine and dryer in a separate laundry, solar power and quality bed linen. The sunroom is used as a playroom for our grandchildren and includes a wardrobe filled with toys, games, books, craft materials, and dress-ups. For weekends further afield, both the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast beaches and hinterlands are approximately 1–1.5 hours away by car. What we love most about our home is the feeling of being in a quiet, green retreat while still being so close to everything Brisbane has to offer. It is an old house with plenty of character, but has been fully renovated for comfortable contemporary living. Friends often tell us that it is a house where they immediately feel at home — and that's exactly what we hope it will be for our guests.
