PLEASE NOTE: This is our home and though we have some flexibility with dates, it is only available for limited periods while we are traveling. Our home is ideal for visiting academics or those looking for shorter stays to visit family, or to explore San Francisco and the Bay Area. We have rented for up to one semester but our home is not available for longterm rental. THE HOUSE: Two bedroom Craftsman bungalow (1200 sq ft) with an additional one bedroom/one bath guest cottage. located in the heart of Rockridge, one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the East Bay. We are only 2.5 miles from UC Berkeley and four blocks from Rockridge BART - which takes you directly to San Francisco in only 20 minutes. Our home is comfortable, stylish and has a lot of character, it is ideal for a couple, with plenty of living space and room for occasional guests. The house features hardwood floors, a well-equipped kitchen with a professional gas stove and a marble bathroom with clawfoot tub and separate walk-in shower. The master bedroom has blackout curtains and a queen bed. We have turned the dining room into a second sitting room and we use the second bedroom, which opens onto the garden, as a home office. There is a second tiny office with desk, in the entryway. We have most modern conveniences including washer/dryer, dishwasher, wifi and tv. You won't find cable or a microwave but you should find almost everything else you'll need for a comfortable stay. The house is colorful, bright and quiet with skylights in most rooms and an open fireplace in the living room, wood included! In addition there is a sunny front porch, and in the back, a stunning modern garden with a stone patio and seating as well as a large dining room table and vegetable boxes. This is a well built, detached Craftsman home, not a duplex, cottage or in-law apartment. Our home is well maintained but it's an older property and thus has its own quirks also known as character! We are dog lovers and would consider renting to those who would like to bring their pooches. THE NEIGHBORHOOD: The San Francisco Chronicle describes Rockridge as: "...some of the most coveted real estate in the Bay Area, for several reasons: the weather in this particular microclimate is often sunny and warm; the commute from the Rockridge BART is easy; the homes on the leafy residential streets have been charmingly restored; and the area's main thoroughfare, College Avenue, is lined with atmospheric cafes, gourmet restaurants, independent bookstores and antiques shops that people go out of their way to patronize." Rockridge is an attractive residential area and we have great neighbors. Oakland is sunnier than SF and for the US it's an unusually accessible area. You'll find you can walk, BART or bike to most places around. If you don't know the areas in the East Bay near campus make sure to ask someone who does before you rent, I'm certain they'd confirm that where we live is highly desirable. THE TERMS: This is our home and we're hoping to rent it to kind, trustworthy people who will enjoy and appreciate it. We have successfully rented and exchanged the house many times and have had great experiences with various academic and foreign visitors.
