A Bright Victorian Flat in Characterful London Neighbourhood A light-filled, quiet retreat in one of South London's most characterful conservation areas — well placed for King's College London (Denmark Hill campus), Guys and St Thomas’s Hospitals, and just ten minutes by tube from Bloomsbury (UCL, Birkbeck and the British Library). Victoria station and Waterloo are five minutes away by tube, and the South Bank is easily reached by bus, tube, or by bike. The flat is on the first floor of a brick built Victorian villa converted into three apartments, on a tree-lined residential street with no through traffic — genuinely quiet, yet within ten minutes' walk of two tube stations. The Flat 55 square metres of well-proportioned living space, fully updated and thoughtfully furnished for a comfortable long stay. Bright and sunny throughout, with hardwood floors, a fireplace, and a chandelier in the sitting room. You will have sole use of a double bedroom, sitting room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. The sitting room has a second double bed in a curtained nook, making the flat equally suitable for a couple or two colleagues. A desk and office chair make for a comfortable working setup. Kitchen and Bathroom The kitchen is fully equipped with an induction hob, oven, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. The sunny dining room adjoins it, with a table and four chairs. The bathroom has a deep soaking tub, a Hansgrohe shower, and a Fired Earth marble-tiled floor. A washing machine is in the hallway laundry closet. Practical Details All bills are included: gas, electricity (up to £100/month), water, council tax, and 150MB fast wifi. The flat has gas central heating and a combi-boiler for instant hot water. A portable air conditioner in the sitting room handles the occasional hot London summer days. A cleaner can be arranged on request. One wardrobe is reserved for storage; everything else is for your use. We are abroad for most of the year and welcome longer sabbatical stays at a discount — please enquire. The Neighbourhood The flat sits in the Van Gogh neighbourhood — so named because Vincent van Gogh lived across the street during his time as a young man in London — a quiet, leafy conservation area that feels like a village pocket within the city. The street is tree-lined with no through traffic, and Kennington Park is a short walk away for green space. Van Gogh Walk is a small mediterranean garden around the corner. Day-to-day life is easy: several supermarkets and local shops are on neighbouring streets, and a farmers' market runs on Saturdays. A contract-free gym is around the corner. For cafés and evenings out, the neighbourhood is well placed. Cable Café is a relaxed spot serving coffee and wine with live music each week. The Fentiman is a pub with a garden and good food. Liloo Coffee and Kitchen is excellent for brunch, and the Brown Derby is an independent pub with music some evenings. The livelier areas of Vauxhall, Clapham, Brixton and the South Bank are all within easy reach. Transport Two tube stations are ten minutes' walk away (Victoria line and Northern line, both Zone 2). Multiple bus routes are three minutes away, and rental bikes are plentiful in the neighbourhood. A car is not needed here — but if you have one, street parking is free in the evenings and at weekends. Bike storage is available in council-provided bicycle hutches nearby, subject to availability.
