Our characterful 1.5-bedroom flat is in the heart of London’s most historic district in a handsome Art Deco building just a few steps from the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. The flat is exceptionally airy and spacious with high ceilings (2.9m), wooden and stone floors throughout, and large (double glazed) windows, which overlook a cobbled alley with trees. Murals decorate many of the walls and ceilings, and bookshelves line the office. There is one master bedroom with a super king size bed (190 x 200 cm), two reading lights, blackout blinds and ample shelves/hanging space for clothes. The office is book-lined, with both sitting and standing desks, lamp, office chair and printer as well as a leather reading chair. It can also be easily turned into a guest bedroom with two comfortable single mattresses (99 x 200 cm, though no bedframe). The sitting room is spacious and ideal for relaxation with hand-painted wall murals and a range of plants, though it can also be used as a second study space with a secretarial desk and chair or another guest-sleeping space – the reading chair is a pull-out, twin-sized cot (comfy if combined with the above-mentioned, extra mattresses). The kitchen is cosy with an oven, electric stove-top, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, electric kettle and compact table and chairs (2 in situ, plus 2 others spread throughout the apartment). There are two bathrooms. One is small and has a shower. The main bathroom contains a bath with shower nozzle as well the usual amenities of mirror, basin and toilet. The building contains its original Art Deco charm – originally constructed in 1934 as marine insurance offices. It was residentially repurposed in the early 2000s and so also contains modern amenities, including a lift and great water pressure. The area is crossroads for the financial buzz of the Square Mile to the northwest, the historic Tower of London and St. Katherine’s Dock to the south, Whitechapel to the east and to the northeast Spitalfields, London’s creative centre. Markets accent the neighbourhood throughout the week and artisanal coffee shops in every direction offer spaces to work outside the flat. The area, including neighbouring Shoreditch, is justly renowned for its restaurants and bars and is also a short walk from the Thames and leafy parks. The nearest stations are Tower Hill and Aldgate Tube stations, which are three minutes away on foot and connect to the Circle, District and Metropolitan lines between them. Liverpool Street Station is a 10-minute walk away, with connections to 4 Underground lines, reaching Holborn, Oxford Circus, Hyde Park, King’s Cross, Victoria and more without changing trains. Bus routes go across the city, there are two bicycle rental ports nearby and a few blocks away is the Minories Car Park, a 24/7 parking garage. In terms of transport, there isn’t a better location in East London, and for the intrepid visitor there are many routes for exploration on foot.
